Neuroplasticity and Healthy Lifestyle: How Can We Understand This Relationship? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Our brain has this extraordinary ability to experience functional and structural changes before environmental stimuli, cognitive demand, or our experience itself. Exercise, diet, an appropriate sleep pattern, and reading habits are among those activities

Cobalt Single‐Atom Catalysts for Ultrafast Sulfamethoxazole Degradation: Unveiling the Chloride‐Ion‐Enhanced Formation of Co(IV)=O

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An atomically dispersed Co–N4 single‐atom catalyst rapidly activates peroxymonosulfate to remove the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole from water. Common ions have little impact, but chloride dramatically speeds degradation by promoting a high‐valent Co(IV) = O oxidant via in situ HOCl–catalyst electron transfer.

One-Single Extraction Procedure for the Simultaneous Determination of a Wide Range of Polar and Nonpolar Organic Contaminants in Seawater

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2018
A rapid analytical method including one-single solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure followed by gas and liquid chromatography coupled with high resolution mass spectrometry detection (GC–MS and LC–HRMS respectively) was developed for the quantification

Characterizing and Genetically Modifying Oscillatoria to Degrade BPA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bisphenol A (BPA) is becoming an increasing environmental concern. It is a hormone disruptor, and its presence in natural waterways causes some aquatic species to experience problems in growth, reproduction, and development.

Operando X‐Ray Diffraction and Total Scattering Characterization of Battery Materials: Not Just a Pretty Picture

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review focuses on operando studies of battery materials by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and total X‐ray scattering (TXS). This work highlights potential pitfalls and identify best‐practices for operando studies and reviews some unusual experiments to illustrate how these methods can be applied beyond the evaluation of the early‐stage cycling mechanisms

Re-evaluation of the first synthetic estrogen, 1-keto-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrophenanthrene, and bisphenol A, using both the ovariectomised rat model used in 1933 and additional assays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
1-Keto-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrophenanthrene (THP-1) was reported by Cook et al in 1933 as the first synthetic estrogen. Estrogenic activity was assessed by the induction of vaginal cornification in ovariectomised rats.

Glyoxylic‐Acetal‐Based Gel‐Polymer Electrolytes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2025.
A safe electrolyte based on tetraethoxyglyoxal (LE) is combined with a methacrylate polymer matrix. The resulting gel‐polymer electrolyte (GPE) exhibits an increased flash point, suitable ionic conductivity, and a stable performance in lithium‐ion battery cells.

Polymer composites containing diatomite and boron carbide that are capable to absorb thermal neutrons

open access: yesХімія, фізика та технологія поверхні
Composites capable to absorb thermal neutrons have been developed on the basis of resol type matrix-bisphenol-formaldehyde oligomers, in which thermally modified natural sorbents - diatomite and boron carbide were used as fillers. In particular, we used

Endocrine Disruption of Vasopressin Systems and Related Behaviors

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2017
Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are chemicals that interfere with the organizational or activational effects of hormones. Although the vast majority of the EDC literature focuses on steroid hormone signaling related impacts, growing evidence from a
