The emergence of ferroelectricity near the morphotropic phase boundary in BiFeO3 directly during thin‐film growth is explored. The films form purely in the tetragonal phase with zero critical thickness. Signatures of monoclinic phase coexistence only appear upon cooling.

Protective effect of bixin on cisplatin-induced genotoxicity in PC12 cells
Bixin is the main carotenoid found in annatto seeds (Bixa orellana L.) and is responsible for their reddish-orange color. The antioxidant properties of this compound are associated with its ability to scavenge free radicals, which may reduce damage and ...

Thermal degradation kinetics of bixin in an aqueous model system
The kinetics of the thermal degradation of the natural cis carotenoid bixin in a water/ethanol (8:2) solution was studied as a function of temperature (70-125 degrees C), using high-performance liquid chromatography. The curves for the decay of bixin and

Extraction of bixin from annatto seeds using supercritical carbon dioxide
The solubility of 93% Pure bixin in supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) and of the bixin present ill annatto seeds (Bixa orellana L.) was measured. For the seeds, the measurements were made in a temperature range from 30 to 50 degrees C and pressure ...
