Evaluation of different methods of performing cell block preparation and their role in accurate cytological diagnosis and reporting of fine needle aspiration cytology of the thyroid nodules

open access: yesSVU - International Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Background: Cytology is used to interpret cells obtained from various lesions. It is based on different sampling techniques that include fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), brush cytology, body fluids collection and study and collection of exfoliated

Tmc1 point mutation affects Ca2+ sensitivity and block by dihydrostreptomycin of the mechanoelectrical transducer current of mouse outer hair cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The transduction of sound into electrical signals depends on mechanically sensitive ion channels in the stereociliary bundle. The molecular composition of this mechanoelectrical transducer (MET) channel is not yet known.

Block sensitivity of minterm-transitive functions

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 2011
Boolean functions with symmetry properties are interesting from a complexity theory perspective; extensive research has shown that these functions, if nonconstant, must have high `complexity' according to various measures. In recent work of this type, Sun gave bounds on the block sensitivity of nonconstant Boolean functions invariant under a transitive

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Impacts of Simultaneous Multislice Acquisition on Sensitivity and Specificity in fMRI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Simultaneous multislice (SMS) imaging can be used to decrease the time between acquisition of fMRI volumes, which can increase sensitivity by facilitating the removal of higher-frequency artifacts and boosting effective sample size.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Reservoir Sensitivity Analysis of Tight Sandstone and Its Controlling Factors: A Case Study from Chang 4+5 to Chang 6 Reservoirs in N 212 Well Block of Nanniwan Oilfield, Ordos Basin

open access: yesGeofluids, 2023
Reservoir sensitivity can lead to the physical or chemical reactions to block the pore throat. It is helpful for reducing the damage on tight sandstone reservoir to study the reservoir sensitivity and its controlling factors. This paper mainly focuses on

New Constructions with Quadratic Separation between Sensitivity and Block Sensitivity.

open access: yesElectron. Colloquium Comput. Complex., 2018
Nisan and Szegedy [Nisan and Szegedy, 1994] conjectured that block sensitivity is at most polynomial in sensitivity for any Boolean function. There is a huge gap between the best known upper bound on block sensitivity in terms of sensitivity - which is exponential, and the best known separating examples - which give only a quadratic separation between ...
