Protective role of Nigella sativa oil on renal damage induced by acetaminophen in male rats

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2017
Acetaminophen also called paracetamol is commonly used as analgesic and antipyretic agent which in high doses causes liver and kidney damage in man and animals. Nigella sativa oil have antioxidant properties. Thirty adult male rats were used and randomly

Efficacy of a reduced protein diet on clinical expression of post-weaning diarrhoea and life-time performance after experimental challenge with an enterotoxigenic strain of Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Previous experiments have shown that feeding a reduced protein diet within the first 2 weeks post-weaning reduces gastrointestinal protein fermentation and clinical expression of post-weaning diarrhoea (PWD).

Reconfigurable Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles with Therapeutic RNAi Responses to Intracellular Disease Markers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Many known diseases arise from dysregulated gene expression, and differentially expressed genes can serve as biomarkers to distinguish diseased cells from healthy tissues. In this study, reconfigurable nucleic acid nanoparticles (recNANPs) are introduced that can detect overexpressed cancer biomarkers and subsequently release RNAi inducers to silence ...

Alcoholic Hepatitis Markedly Decreases the Capacity for Urea Synthesis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Data on quantitative metabolic liver functions in the life-threatening disease alcoholic hepatitis are scarce. Urea synthesis is an essential metabolic liver function that plays a key regulatory role in nitrogen homeostasis.

Involvement of heparanase in the pathogenesis of acute kidney injury: Nephroprotective effect of PG545 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Despite the high prevalence of acute kidney injury (AKI) and its association with increased morbidity and mortality, therapeutic approaches for AKI are disappointing. This is largely attributed to poor understanding of the pathogenesis of AKI. Heparanase,

DENTA: A Dual Enzymatic Nanoagent for Self‐Activating Tooth Whitening and Biofilm Disruption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanoapatite with dual enzymes (DENTA) accumulates in dentinal tubules, reducing hypersensitivity caused by dental nerve exposure and facilitating continuous ROS generation through salivary glucose for effective, long‐term whitening. The dentin structures remain non‐destructive due to the low concentration of ROS, demonstrating excellent cell ...

Association between serum urea nitrogen levels and prostate-specific antigens (NHANES 2003–2010)

open access: yesJournal of Health, Population and Nutrition
Background Increasing evidence suggests that serum urea nitrogen may be a risk factor for prostate cancer (PCa) and influence serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations, but direct evidence of a relationship between PSA and serum urea nitrogen ...

Self‐Immolative Activatable Nanoassembly toward Immuno‐Photodynamic Therapy in TME

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A quinone methide‐gated, self‐immolative, H2O2‐responsive nano‐photosensitizer (Pyz/PS) is developed for targeted immuno‐photodynamic therapy. Pyz/PS selectively activates within tumor microenvironments, restores photosensitizer activity, generates ROS, and depletes intracellular GSH, enhancing oxidative stress.
