Omega-3 phospholipids in Pacific blue mackerel (Scomber australasicus) processing by-products

Food Chemistry, 2021
The present study investigated phospholipid content, fatty acid composition and the positional distribution (sn-1,3 and sn-2) of n-3 fatty acids in four blue mackerel processing by-products (head, skin, roe, and male gonad). Total lipid was extracted using hexane/ethanol (1:2) and the analyses were carried out using NMR and GC-FID techniques.

Numerical study on blue mackerel larval transport in East China Sea

Journal of Marine Systems, 2021
Abstract An Individual-based model (IBM) for studying the blue mackerel larval transport in East China Sea (ECS), for the first time, is developed based on Ichthyop model. Coastal and Regional Ocean Community model (CROCO), a typical hydrodynamic model, is configured as well to provide Ichthyop with the physical variables (e.g. temperature, salinity,

The diet of blue whiting, hake, horse mackerel and mackerel off Portugal

Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 2002
This paper deals with the diets of blue whiting Micromesistius poutassou (Risso 1810), hake Merluccius merluccius (L. 1758), horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus (L. 1758), and mackerel Scomber scombrus (L. 1758) off Portugal and explores variations in fish length, water depth, latitude and season.

Quality assessment of Mediterranean horse mackerel (Trachurus mediterraneus) and blue jack mackerel (Trachurus picturatus) during storage in ice

Food Control, 2007
Abstract Sensory, physicochemical and microbiological analyses were carried out on Mediterranean horse mackerel and blue jack mackerel in order to determine quality changes during storage in ice. Sensory results indicated that whole Mediterranean horse mackerel and blue jack mackerel used in this trial had a shelf-life of 10 and 7 days, respectively.

Feeding of larval blue whiting and Atlantic mackerel: a comparison of foraging strategies

Journal of Fish Biology, 1997
Fish larvae employ different feeding strategies depending on area and season of spawning and hatching of larvae. Feeding and growth of larvae of blue whiting Micromesistius poutassou and mackerel Scomber scombrus from Porcupine Bank and the Celtic Shelf Break, west of Ireland, were compared based on prey concentrations in the environment and larval ...

Occurrence and molecular identification of nematodes from blue mackerel Scomber australasicus Cuvier in Australian waters

Parasitology International, 2023
This study determines the occurrence and molecular identification of nematodes from blue mackerel Scomber australasicus Cuvier (Perciformes: Scombridae), an edible fish from Australian waters. A total of 150 fish were sourced from the New South Wales and Victorian coasts.

Blue jack mackerel (Trachurus picturatus) in Subdivision Xa2 (Azores)

2022
This is the first time that ICES analyses data for Trachurus picturatus in the waters of the Azores. The lpue indices show increasing trends, but the exploitation status is unknown, therefore on the basis of precautionary considerations, catches should not be allowed to increase.
