We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Studies on the green and blue molds of Satsuma orange. VI.
In an inoculation experiment of P. digitatum against orange fruits, when phosphate buffer solutions of different pH, ranging from pH 2 to pH 8, were used as the media for spore suspension, affected area (macerated area) developed rapidly with the acidic spore suspension, while slow development was resulted with neutral to alkaline spore suspension ...

Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Susceptibility to blue mold caused by Penicillium expansum in apple cultivars adapted to a cool climate [PDF]
Each year, fungal storage rots cause serious losses in the apple industry. The problem is especially prominent in production systems with little or no use of pre- or postharvest fungicides.

CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PENICILLIUM ISOLATES ASSOCIATED WITH BLUE MOLD ON KIWFRUITS IN SERBIA [PDF]
Kiwifruits are edible berries from woody vines belonging to the genus Actinidia, native to southwest China, but sold and widely consumed worldwide, including in Serbia. The nutritional benefits of these fruits include richness with vitamin C and significant levels of dietary fiber, vitamin E, folate, and potassium.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Actigard Increases Fungicide Efficacy Against Tobacco Blue Mold [PDF]
Blue mold, caused by Peronospora tabacina, can be economically damaging to cigar wrapper tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum). We evaluated acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) as Actigard 50WG alone and in combination with a standard fungicide program for efficacy against blue mold on shade-grown cigar wrapper tobacco in Windsor, CT.
