Efficient Biodegradation of Patulin by Aspergillus niger FS10 and Metabolic Response of Degrading Strain [PDF]

open access: yesFoods, 2023
Patulin, a mycotoxin commonly found in fruits and derived products, causes serious health problems for humans and animals worldwide. Several microbial strains have been observed to possess the ability to effectively remove patulin. However, these methods

Influence of Major Environmental Parameters on Patulin Production by Penicillium expansum OM1 and Its Growth on Apple Puree Agar Media [PDF]

open access: yesToxins
Patulin is a mycotoxin produced mainly by Penicillium expansum on apples. P. expansum is a fruit pathogen that can cause apple soft rot. However, much is unknown about the characteristics of P.

Patulin-producing mold, toxicological, biosynthesis, and molecular detection of patulin

open access: yesAdvances in Food Science, Sustainable Agriculture, and Agroindustrial Engineering, 2021
Mycotoxin is one of the food safety problems that raise concern because of its negative health impact and significant economic losses. Patulin is the most common mycotoxin found in fruits and its products like apple, orange, grape, pear, etc.

Comparative genome analysis of patulin-producing Penicillium paneum OM1 isolated from pears [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background The filamentous fungus Penicillium paneum (P. paneum) produces patulin as a toxic secondary metabolite (SM) on apples and pears. Little is known about the biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) of SMs, including patulin in P. paneum.

Patulin induced neuronal cell damage in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells [PDF]

open access: yesToxicology Reports
Patulin, a mycotoxin produced by fungal species, is found in fruits and their derivatives. Exposure to it can lead to cognitive deficits and neurodegenerative disorders. Understanding its mechanisms is crucial for assessing risks in food, emphasizing the

Research Progress on the Toxicity and Mechanism of Action of Patulin [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue, 2023
Patulin, a toxic secondary metabolite of fungi, exists widely and stably in fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and Chinese medicinal materials. Patulin enters the body through skin contact or food intake, posing a great threat to the health of humans and ...

Natural Thiols, but Not Thioethers, Attenuate Patulin-Induced Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in HepG2 Cells

open access: yesToxins, 2021
Patulin, a mycotoxin, is known to have cytotoxic effects, but few studies have focused on the involvement of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response in patulin toxicity and the natural compounds that attenuate it in HepG2 cells.

Teratogenicity of patulin and patulin adducts formed with cysteine [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1976
The mean lethal dose of patulin for the chicken embryo injected in the air cell before incubation was determined to be 68.7 mug and that for the 4-day-old embryo was 2.35 mug. Both patulin (1 to 2 mug/egg) and the reaction mixture between patulin and cysteine (15 to 150 mug of patulin equivalents) were teratogenic to the chicken embryo.

Effect of Yeast Cell Morphology, Cell Wall Physical Structure and Chemical Composition on Patulin Adsorption. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The capability of yeast to adsorb patulin in fruit juice can aid in substantially reducing the patulin toxic effect on human health. This study aimed to investigate the capability of yeast cell morphology and cell wall internal structure and composition ...
