Nanoscale structure of the BMP antagonist chordin supports cooperative BMP binding [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2014
Significance Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are essential signaling molecules important in embryo development and maintaining tissue function in adulthood. BMPs are regulated outside the cell by inhibitors such as chordin. The structure of chordin is unknown as extracellular proteins are generally not suitable for high-resolution methods.

BMP signaling and its paradoxical effects in tumorigenesis and dissemination

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2016
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) play important roles in embryonic and postnatal development by regulating cell differentiation, proliferation, motility, and survival, thus maintaining homeostasis during organ and tissue development.

Multiscale Hybrid Surface Topographies Orchestrate Immune Regulation, Antibacterial Defense, and Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid wrinkled topographies coordinate immune, tissue, and bacterial interactions. The surfaces promote osteointegration, tune macrophage polarization, and inhibit biofilm formation, highlighting a multifunctional strategy for next‐generation implant design.

The formative evaluation of a forestry Best Management Practices program in a municipal watershed

open access: yesThe Forestry Chronicle, 2020
Best Management Practices for water quality (BMPs) have been proven effective in reducing sedimentation from timber harvesting operations. Although most states in the country have BMP guidelines, many are non-regulatory, creating challenges for forest ...

Effect of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Overexpressing BMP-9 Primed with Hypoxia on BMP Targets, Osteoblast Differentiation and Bone Repair

open access: yesBiology, 2023
Bone formation is driven by many signaling molecules including bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP-9) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α). We demonstrated that cell therapy using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) overexpressing BMP-9 (MSCs+BMP-9 ...

Role of the bone morphogenic protein pathway in developmental haemopoiesis and leukaemogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Myeloid leukaemias share the common characteristics of being stem cell-derived clonal diseases, characterised by excessive proliferation of one or more myeloid lineage.

Notch regulates BMP responsiveness and lateral branching in vessel networks via SMAD6

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Functional blood vessel growth depends on generation of distinct but coordinated responses from endothelial cells. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP), part of the TGFβ superfamily, bind receptors to induce phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of SMAD

A Heparin‐Functionalized Scaffold with HB‐EGF Immobilization for Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a heparin‐functionalized scaffold is designed for bio‐mimicking growth factors reservoir function of extracellular matrix. Due to the presence of heparin‐binding domain, heparin‐binding epidermal growth factor‐like growth factor (HB‐EGF) is effectively and spatially captured by heparin‐functionalized scaffold.

Enhanced BMP-2/BMP-4 ratio in patients with peripheral spondyloarthritis and in cytokine- and stretch-stimulated mouse chondrocytes

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2020
Background Excessive bone formation in the entheses is one of the features of peripheral spondyloarthritis (SpA). Complex pathological mechanisms connecting inflammation, mechanical stress, and ossification are probably involved.

Platelet Lysate–Enriched Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell–Derived Chondrocyte Sheets for Bone Defect Repair via Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human iPSC‐derived hypertrophic chondrocyte sheet promotes bone regeneration. Abstract Bone defects are a major clinical challenge, primarily owing to the limited self‐healing capacity of bones and the high risk of complications associated with conventional treatment strategies.
