Abstract figure legend A summary of the current knowledge around membrane transporter expression in the most widely used in vitro models of human trophoblasts, including primary placental tissue, cancer cell lines and trophoblast stem cells, as well as the techniques to attempt to mimic the human placenta in vivo.

Senp1 drives hypoxia-induced polycythemia via GATA1 and Bcl-xL in subjects with Monge's disease. [PDF]
In this study, because excessive polycythemia is a predominant trait in some high-altitude dwellers (chronic mountain sickness [CMS] or Monge's disease) but not others living at the same altitude in the Andes, we took advantage of this human experiment ...

BMP4 facilitates beige fat biogenesis via regulating adipose tissue macrophages
Thermogenic beige fat improves metabolism and prevents obesity. Emerging evidence shows that the activation of M2 macrophages stimulates beige adipogenesis, whereas the activation of M1 macrophages, which play a major role in inflammation, impedes beige ...

BMP4 substitutes for loss of BMP7 during kidney development
Functional inactivation of divergent bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) causes discrete disturbances during mouse development. BMP4-deficient embryos display mesodermal patterning defects at early post-implantation stages, whereas loss of BMP7 selectively disrupts kidney and eye morphogenesis.

Ageing acts as a double‐edged sword in cancer. In the elderly, open chromatin, immunosenescence, and chronic inflammation drive SASP (IL‐6, MMPs), MDSC accumulation and T‐cell suppression, fostering tumor‐promoting microenvironments and limited therapeutic benefit.

The effect of BMP4 on mouse embryonic stem cell proliferation and differentiation into primordial germ cells [PDF]
Background and Aim: Artificial gamete production from stem cells is a novel strategy for treatment of infertility. Among various stem cell sources, embryonic stem cells (ESC) can be considered as an appropriate source for in vitro formation of germ cells.

Modeling mammalian gastrulation with embryonic stem cells
Understanding cell fate patterning and morphogenesis in the mammalian embryo remains a formidable challenge. Recently, in vivo models based on embryonic stem cells (ESCs) have emerged as complementary methods to quantitatively dissect the physical and ...

BMP4 is a novel paracrine inhibitor of liver regeneration
Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β family members exert strong effects on restoration of liver mass after injury. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-β family and are found in the liver, suggesting that these proteins may play a role in liver regeneration. We examined BMP signaling in the liver during hepatectomy.

Molecular Landscape in Limb Anomalies: Diagnostic Yield and New Candidate Genes
In 132 individuals with limb anomalies, diagnostic yield was 36% (47/132), including 25 novel variants, three cases with new phenotypes, and two candidate loci, HOXA11 and a small 2q31.1 deletion. Mouse data and exome‐wide analysis, key in identifying the candidate loci, represent an important opportunity for gene discovery.
