Diffusion bonding of nickel-based powder metallurgy superalloy FGH98 with pure nickel interlayer

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
FGH98 powder metallurgy superalloy were successfully bonded via diffusion bonding technique with pure Ni interlayer. It was indicated that adding the Ni interlayer can significantly reduce joint defects, promote elements diffusion, and improve the ...

Adhesively bonded single lap joint of composites

open access: yesCiencia y Poder Aéreo, 2013
A study of single lap joints of composite materials with and without attachments is presented. Failure of this type of joint is caused by the high peel stress in a perpendicular direction presented in the geometric singularity. It is shown that the joint

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Influence of hydrothermal ageing on single lap bonded CFRP joints [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2018
Nowadays adhesive are widely used in structural applications, in particular for assembly composite materials. In fact, this technique allows to obtain a more uniform load in the joint, to realise a joint with an higher specific strength and to avoid ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Analysis of stress distribution of CFRP bonded joints: A study of numerical and machine learning approach

open access: yesHeliyon
We aim to provide a study of material selection at the upper adherend subject for optimization of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) adhesive-bonded joints with details on the stress distribution in the complex tri-material joint structure.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Evaluation of factors influencing adhesive bond strength

open access: yesResearch in Agricultural Engineering, 2006
In the last ten years periods the bonding technology noted a great boom not only in manufacturing industry but in repairing industry, too. The expansion of chemical industry is the cause of this boom.

Effects of steps on the load bearing capacity of 3D-printed single lap joints

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Damage in adhesively bonded joints typically initiates in the overlap area due to high level of bonding (peel) stress. Different approaches are being considered to decrease the peel stress and improve the overall strength of the joint.
