Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Harvest Techniques for the Sports Medicine Surgeon. [PDF]

open access: yesArthrosc Tech
Abstract The use of bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) as a surgical augment to enhance biologic healing has been gaining popularity in a variety of sports medicine procedures. Due to its reliable availability from multiple sites, including the proximal tibia, proximal humerus, and anterior superior iliac spine, BMAC can be ...

The effect of an alginate carrier on bone formation in a hydroxyapatite scaffold. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This study investigated the osteoconductive properties of a porous hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffold manufactured using a novel technique similar to the bread-making process, alone and in combination with an alginate polysaccharide fiber gel (HA/APFG putty ...

S100A14 in Tumor‐Derived EVs Targets PIAS3 to Reprogram Astrocytes and Induce Immunosuppressive Microenvironment Promoting Brain Metastasis and Germacrone Reversal Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies S100A14 in tumor‐derived exosomes as a key driver of brain metastasis. S100A14 targets PIAS3 in astrocytes, activating STAT3 signaling and promoting immunosuppressive MDSCs recruitment via chemokine secretion. Germacrone, a natural compound, binds S100A14 to disrupt this axis, effectively inhibiting brain metastasis with low ...

Innovative Approaches in Knee Osteoarthritis Treatment: A Comprehensive Review of Bone Marrow-Derived Products

open access: yesBiomedicines
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic articular disease characterized by the progressive degeneration of cartilage and bone tissue, leading to the appearance of subchondral cysts, osteophyte formation, and synovial inflammation.

Biopsy needle advancement during bone marrow aspiration increases mesenchymal stem cell concentration

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2016
Point-of-care kits to concentrate bone marrow (BM) derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are used clinically in horses. A maximal number of MSCs per ml of marrow aspirated might be desired prior to use of a point-of-care system to concentrate MSCs.

Clinical application of concentrated bone marrow aspirate in orthopaedics: A systematic review

open access: yesWorld Journal of Orthopedics, 2017
To examine the evidence behind the use of concentrated bone marrow aspirate (cBMA) in cartilage, bone, and tendon repair; establish proof of concept for the use of cBMA in these biologic environments; and provide the level and quality of evidence substantiating the use of cBMA in the clinical setting. We conducted a systematic review according to PRISMA

Activin receptor-like kinase receptors ALK5 and ALK1 are both required for TGFβ-induced chondrogenic differentiation of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Introduction Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are promising for cartilage regeneration because BMSCs can differentiate into cartilage tissue-producing chondrocytes.

Trained Memory of Uterine Macrophages Improves Subsequent Pregnancy Outcomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies that pregnancy imprints a durable, pregnancy‐specific form of trained immune memory in uterine macrophages, marked by the emergence of LILRB3+/PIR‐B+ cells that expand across gestations, acquire a tolerogenic and metabolically rewired phenotype, and actively protect against inflammatory pregnancy loss in mice.
