A Case of Recurrence of Severe Depressive Disorder With Flu—Neuroinflammatory Basis of Depressive Disorder

open access: yesProgress in Neurology and Psychiatry, Volume 30, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This case highlights a relapse of major depressive disorder in an elderly man following a flu‐like illness, with clinical features and laboratory findings supporting a possible inflammatory contribution. It emphasises the relevance of the inflammatory theory of depression, especially in individuals with late‐life depression and recent immune ...

Distinct 5′ UTR Requirements for Translation of the Bicistronic X/P mRNA Among Avian Orthobornaviruses

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, Volume 70, Issue 2, Page 80-90, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Orthobornaviruses express X and the phosphoprotein (P) from a bicistronic X/P mRNA, and these proteins regulate polymerase activity. In mammalian orthobornaviruses, the 5′ untranslated region (5′ UTR) of the X/P mRNA controls the translational balance between X and P and thereby promotes efficient replication.

Borna Disease in a Dog with Lethal Meningoencephalitis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1998
ABSTRACT A dog was euthanatized because of progressive neurological signs. Histologically, a nonsuppurative meningoencephalitis was found. By immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and nested PCR procedures, Borna disease virus (BDV) antigen and BDV-specific RNA were demonstrated in brain tissues of the dog.

Comparison of Insertion Difficulties and Performance of Thoracoamniotic Shunts for Fetal Hydrothorax

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 105-113, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study compared insertion difficulties, shunt failure, reintervention rates, maternal adverse events, and neonatal outcomes among different shunt types used in fetal hydrothorax. Method A retrospective multicenter cohort study (2012–2022) was conducted across 12 international centers.

Nucleocytoplasmic Shuttling of Viral Proteins in Borna Disease Virus Infection

open access: yesViruses, 2013
Nuclear import and export of viral RNA and proteins are critical to the replication cycle of viruses that replicate in the nucleus. Borna disease virus (BDV) is a nonsegmented, negative-strand RNA virus that belongs to the order Mononegavirales.

Physicochemical Properties and Sensory Evaluation of Nutrient‐Rich Cookies: Substitution of Wheat Flour With Composite Flour of Pumpkin Seed, Chickpea, and Oats

open access: yesJournal of Food Processing and Preservation, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Many countries are facing a significant problem of hunger and malnutrition due to the lack of balanced nutrients in regular diets. Cookies can serve as a consumer‐friendly alternative to fulfill nutritional requirements. This study aimed to formulate cookies using nutrient‐rich, locally available, and underused ingredients as substitutes for wheat ...

Antibodies to Borna disease virus in subacute sclerosing panencephalitus

open access: yes, 2005
Mechanisms causing persistence and reactivation of measles virus in subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) are unknown. Borna disease virus (BDV) frequently causes latent or persistent infection in the nervous system.

Shedding of Infectious Borna Disease Virus-1 in Living Bicolored White-Toothed Shrews. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Many RNA viruses arise from animal reservoirs, namely bats, rodents and insectivores but mechanisms of virus maintenance and transmission still need to be addressed.

Rustrela Virus-Associated Encephalomyelitis (‘Staggering Disease’) in Cats from Eastern Austria, 1994–2016

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Clinical cases of ‘staggering disease’, a nonsuppurative encephalomyelitis associated with gait abnormalities in cats, have been documented for decades in Sweden. In Austria, an increased incidence was observed in the 1990s. Only recently, rustrela virus
