Aromaticity of Planar Boron Clusters Confirmed

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
Low-energy boron clusters are characterized by two-dimensional geometry. Aromaticity of these planar boron clusters was established in terms of topological resonance energy (TRE). All planar boron clusters were found to be highly aromatic with large positive TREs even if they have 4n pi-electrons.

Boron clusters-based metallodendrimers

Inorganica Chimica Acta, 2014
Abstract This review includes a compilation of different types of star-shaped molecules and dendrimers decorated with boron clusters, carboranes or metallacarboranes, at their periphery. Dendrimeric platforms, such as PAMAM, carbosilane, poly(aryl-ether), among others, have been functionalized with a different number of small metallacarboranes, nido ...

Icosahedral boron clusters as modifying entities for biomolecules

Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy, 2018
Icosahedral boron clusters have unique properties useful in medicinal chemistry: rigidity, chemical stability, and three-dimensional aromaticity. Furthermore, these abiotic compounds have low toxicity and are stable in the biological environment. All these features ultimately give them the ability to interact with biological molecules in a different ...

Probing the Nature of the Transition-Metal-Boron Bonds and Novel Aromaticity in Small Metal-Doped Boron Clusters Using Photoelectron Spectroscopy

open access: yesAnnual Review of Physical Chemistry, 2022
Photoelectron spectroscopy combined with quantum chemistry has been a powerful approach to elucidate the structures and bonding of size-selected boron clusters (Bn ), revealing a prevalent planar world that laid the foundation for borophenes ...

Identification of boron clusters and boron-interstitial clusters in silicon

Physical Review B, 2003
The identity of boron clusters and boron interstitial clusters in Si, produced by radiation or implantation, has been studied theoretically. Local vibration modes of the single-boron interstitial and the diboron split interstitial $({\mathrm{B}}_{2}\mathrm{I})$ and its metastable isomer as well as substitutional dimers are found to be in good agreement

Dynamical behavior of boron clusters

Nanoscale, 2016
Several of the lowest energy structures of small and medium sized boron clusters are two-dimensional systems made up of a pair of concentric rings. In some cases, the barriers to the rotation of one of those rings relative to the other are remarkably low.

Cobalt-boron clusters

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1976
Abstract : The novel compounds (eta-C5H5)3C03B3H5 (I), (eta-C5H5)3C053B4H4 (II), and (eta-C5h5)4C04B4H4 (III) have been isolated as air-stable crystalline solids from the reaction of Na(+)B5H8(-) with CoCl1 and NaC5H5 below 20 degrees, and characterized from mass spectra and NMR spectra.
