Antibody neutralization of a myotoxin from the venom of Bothrops asper (terciopelo)

Neutralization of biological activities of B. asper myotoxin by a monospecific anti-myotoxin rabbit serum and polyvalent antivenom was studied. Both antisera neutralized myotoxic, phospholipase A and lethal activities of myotoxin, whereas edema-forming activity of myotoxin was not neutralized by these antisera.

Neutralization of local tissue damage induced by Bothrops asper (terciopelo) snake venom

Local tissue damage represents a serious consequence of Bothrops asper envenomations. It encompasses a complex series of alterations, including myonecrosis, dermonecrosis, hemorrhage and edema. Due to its rapid development it is difficult to neutralize by antivenoms, especially if there is a delay in serotherapy.
