Modeling of fluid flow in periodic cell with porous cylinder using a boundary element method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
© 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. The problem of viscous incompressible flow past a periodic array of porous cylinders (a model of flow in an aerosol filter) is solved. The approximate periodic cell model of Kuwabara is used to formulate the fluid

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

A graph model to describe the network connectivity of trabecular plates and rods

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Introduction: The trabecular network is perceived as a collection of interconnected plate- (P) and rod-like (R) elements. Previous research has highlighted how these elements and their connectivity influence the mechanical properties of bone, yet further

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Boundary elements for non-linear elasticity

open access: yes, 2003
A boundary element technique is employed to analyze perturbations in terms of small elastic deformations superimposed upon a given homogeneous strain. Plane strain deformations are considered of an incompressible hyperelastic solid within the elliptic ...
