Numerical simulation is widely used in the field of computational building physics for the definition of the thermal performance of building elements. An integral component of numerical simulation using finite elements is the boundary conditions, which ...

Histone crosstalk directed by H2B ubiquitination is required for chromatin boundary integrity. [PDF]
Genomic maps of chromatin modifications have provided evidence for the partitioning of genomes into domains of distinct chromatin states, which assist coordinated gene regulation.

The Boundary Element Method in elastodynamics
As is well known B.E.M. is obtained as a mixture of the integral representation formula of classical elasticity and the discretization philosophy of the finite element method (F.E.M.). The paper presents the application of B.E.M. to elastodynamic problems.

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Effect of the surface-active elements on grain boundary oxidation of hot-stamped steel
The effects of minor surface-active alloy elements Sb and Sn on hot-stamped steel grain boundary oxidation at different coiling temperatures were studied through tube sealing and soaking.

Hydrogen enhanced decohesion is expected to play a major role in ferritic steels, especially at grain boundaries. Here, we address the effects of some common alloying elements C, V, Cr, and Mn on the H segregation behaviour and the decohesion mechanism ...

Interfacing Finite Element and Boundary Element Discretizations
This paper reviews critically various implementation methods for coupling a mechanical finite element model to an infinite external acoustic domain discretized through boundary-element techniques. The associated physical problem is that of a three-dimensional structure submerged in an acoustic fluid, and impinged by a pressure shock wave.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
