Badgers and bovine tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2014
What is tuberculosis in badgers? Tuberculosis in European badgers Meles meles is caused by Mycobacterium bovis, the same pathogen that causes bovine tuberculosis in cattle. Pasteurization of cows’ milk and childhood vaccination have greatly reduced human cases of bovine tuberculosis infection in the developed world, though it remains a public health ...

BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS IN CHILDREN [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1919
The purpose of this article is to present an analysis of twenty-four cases of tuberculosis in children and infants, with special reference to the bovine or human type of infecting organism in each case. The results of most investigations into the occurrence of the bovine type of the tubercle bacillus in tuberculosis of children tend to demonstrate the

BOVINE AND HUMAN TUBERCULOSIS. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1904
In the last two reports presented by this committee considerable space was devoted to the subject of tuberculosis, and particularly to that phase of it which relates to the transmission of the disease from animals to man. It was shown from a review of the facts obtained by different methods of inquiry that the clinical evidence, the evidence of ...

High Fat Low Carbohydrate Diet Is Linked to CNS Autoimmunity Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mapping global epidemiological data to macronutrient supply reveals high carbohydrate, in contrast to high fat supply, associates with increased multiple sclerosis (MS) prevalence and incidence. This is confirmed in a mouse MS model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), using isocaloric diets: a high carbohydrate diet aggravates, a high ...

Structural and Biochemical Characterization of a Widespread Enterobacterial Peroxidase Encapsulin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are self‐assembling bacterial protein compartments loaded with cargo enzymes. The most abundant encapsulin cargo class are Dye‐decolorizing Peroxidases (DyPs). In this study, we structurally and biochemically characterize a DyP encapsulin found in many enterobacteria.
