Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Mucosal nasopharyngeal melanoma is a rare head and neck melanoma. Prognosis is poor (5-year overall survival rate of 10–30%) with high rates of metastases and local recurrence. Head and neck mucosal melanoma represents 0.8–3.7% of all melanomas and 0.03%

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

PAPILLARY GLIONEURONAL TUMOR OF THE POSTERIOR FOSSA
Introduction: the papillary glioneuronal tumor (PGT) is an uncommon disease and it has recent categorization. It has probable origin in the pluripotent stem cells of the subependymal zone that is located mainly around the temporal horns of the lateral

Self‐esteem and academic difficulties in preadolescents and adolescents healed from paediatric leukaemia [PDF]
Adolescents with cancer may demonstrate problems in their self‐esteem and schooling. This study aims to screen the preadolescents and adolescents more at risk in their self‐esteem perception and schooling difficulties post‐five years from ...

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Hypothesis of the basic biological sense of cancer revisited: a putative explanation of Peto's paradox [PDF]
The conventional interpretation of cancer, summarized in the unified genetic theory of carcinogenesis, assumes that the malignant cell is the anatomical and physiological unit of cancer.

Serum microRNA array analysis identifies miR-140-3p, miR-33b-3p and miR-671-3p as potential osteoarthritis biomarkers involved in metabolic processes. [PDF]
Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) in circulation have emerged as promising biomarkers. In this study, we aimed to identify a circulating miRNA signature for osteoarthritis (OA) patients and in combination with bioinformatics analysis to evaluate the utility
