A lignan from Alnus japonica inhibits glioblastoma tumorspheres by suppression of FOXM1

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Forkhead Box M1 (FOXM1) is known to regulate cell proliferation, apoptosis and tumorigenesis. The lignan, (−)-(2R,3R)-1,4-O-diferuloylsecoisolariciresinol (DFS), from Alnus japonica has shown anti-cancer effects against colon cancer cells by suppressing ...

Mathematical modeling to elucidate brain tumor abrogation by immunotherapy with T11 target structure

open access: yes, 2015
T11 Target structure (T11TS), a membrane glycoprotein isolated from sheep erythrocytes, reverses the immune suppressed state of brain tumor induced animals by boosting the functional status of the immune cells.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

GBM heterogeneity as a function of variable epidermal growth factor receptor variant III activity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Abnormal activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) due to a deletion of exons 2-7 of EGFR (EGFRvIII) is a common alteration in glioblastoma (GBM). While this alteration can drive gliomagenesis, tumors harboring EGFRvIII are heterogeneous.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Targeting Small Molecule Delivery to the Brain and Spinal Cord via Intranasal Administration of Rabies Virus Glycoprotein (RVG29)-Modified PLGA Nanoparticles

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
Alternative routes of administration are one approach that could be used to bypass the blood−brain barrier (BBB) for effective drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). Here, we focused on intranasal delivery of polymer nanoparticles.

Trombin és ischémia együttes hatása a vér-agy-gát sejtjeire = The effects of thrombin and ischemia on the cells of the blood-brain-barrier [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007

Within-Brain Classification for Brain Tumor Segmentation

open access: yes, 2015
Purpose: In this paper, we investigate a framework for interactive brain tumor segmentation which, at its core, treats the problem of interactive brain tumor segmentation as a machine learning problem. Methods: This method has an advantage over typical

Registration of brain tumor images using hyper-elastic regularization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we present a method to estimate a deformation field between two instances of a brain volume having tumor. The novelties include the assessment of the disease progress by observing the healthy tissue deformation and usage of the Neo ...

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.
