A Highly Convergent Approach to Brevetoxin A [PDF]

open access: yesOrganic Letters, 2007
Through optimized, scaled-up routes to the G and J rings of brevetoxin A, a convergent strategy based upon a Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons coupling reaction completed the GHIJ fragment. Further studies toward an alternative protecting group strategy for the GHIJ fragment elucidated a shortened synthesis.

Brevetoxin induces a shift in the redox state of the proteome and unfolded protein response in human lymphoblast cells that can be alleviated with the acrolein scavenger MESNA.

Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2023
Human lymphoblast cells were treated with the marine algal toxin, brevetoxin-2 (PbTx-2), and its effects on the proteome were assessed by redox proteomics using cysteine reactive tandem mass tags (TMT).

Clam calamity: five concurrent cases of neurotoxic shellfish poisoning with varying presentations following ingestion of clams from Gulf of Mexico water contaminated with Karenia brevis confirmed by serum brevetoxin assays

Clinical toxicology, 2023
Introduction Karinia brevis, a marine dinoflagellate, is the causative organism for “red-tide” on the east coast of Florida. This microbe produces brevetoxins, which bioaccumulate in filter feeding bivalve shellfish.

Antibodies to brevetoxin B: Serologic differentiation of brevetoxin B and brevetoxin A

Toxicon, 1992
A brevetoxin B immunogen was prepared by reacting brevetoxin B with the amino groups of bovine albumin followed by treatment with sodium borohydride. Immunized rabbits produced antibodies that bound [3H]brevetoxin B-alcohol. This binding increased with repeated immunization (KD for one rabbit after three courses of immunization was about 10 pM ...

Brevetoxins

2000
Abstract Brevetoxins are lipid-soluble marine poisons synthesized by the red tide dinoflagellate Ptychodiscus brevis (previously Gymnodinium breve). These cyclic polyethers and structural relatives of ciguatoxin may induce massive killings of fish and also cause neurotoxic shell fish poisoning (NSP). NSP is a nonlethal intoxication of

Putative high-level toxicity pathways based on evidence of brevetoxin immunotoxicity in marine fauna.

Aquatic Toxicology, 2022
Red tide events, caused by a toxin producing dinoflagellate, Karenia brevis, occur annually in Florida and Texas. These events lead to health risks for both humans and wildlife that utilize coastal environments. Brevetoxins, potent lipophilic neurotoxins

Method performance verification for the combined detection and quantitation of the marine neurotoxins cyclic imines and brevetoxin shellfish metabolites in mussels (Mytilus edulis) and oysters (Crassostrea gigas) by UHPLC-MS/MS.

Journal of chromatography. B, Analytical technologies in the biomedical and life sciences, 2021
A single laboratory method performance verification is reported for a rapid sensitive UHPLC-MS/MS method for the quantification of eight cyclic imine and two brevetoxin analogues in two bivalve shellfish matrices: mussel (Mytilus edulis) and Pacific ...
