Acid-Catalyzed Hydrolysis of Bridged Bi- and Tricyclic Compounds. XXIX. 7-Oxa-5-oxo-2-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene: Kinetics and Mechanism. [PDF]
7-Oxa-5-oxo-bicyclo [2.2.1] heptene (7-oxanorborn-2-en-5-one) produces in concentrated (5-8.5 mol dm −3 ) aqueous perchloric acid mainly 1,2-dihydroxybenzene. The reaction is initiated by the pre-equilibrium protonation of the ether oxygen atom and the subsequent rupture of the C(1)-O(7) bond.
