Comparative Analysis of Salmonella typhimurium‐Induced Transcriptomic Changes in the Spleen of Beijing‐You Chickens and Guang Ming Broilers

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study analyzed the spleen transcriptomes of different chicken breeds, identified key differentially expressed genes (EGR1, FOS, and DUSP1) that regulate resistance to Salmonella infection, and elucidated the underlying regulatory mechanisms, thereby providing new targets for disease‐resistant breeding in poultry.

Influence of Monensin and Salinomycin on the Performance of Broiler Chicks

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1989
Because monensin and salinomycin are widely used to control coccidiosis, two experiments were conducted to compare the performance of broiler chicks when these compounds were added to the diet. Five levels of each coccidiostat were fed. Increasing the levels of coccidiostat resulted in a decrease in body weight and feed intake.

Effects of an Organic Acid Blend on Growth Performance, Redox Homeostasis, and Intestinal Microbiota of Broilers in an Antibiotic‐Free Production System Under Winter Environmental Challenges

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Schematic summary of the effects of organic acids on growth performance and gut health‐related parameters in broilers. ABSTRACT This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of an organic acid blend on growth performance, redox homeostasis, and intestinal microbiota of broilers raised in an antibiotic‐free system during the winter season in China ...

By‐product of heparin extraction as a sustainable alternative to enhance the use of nitrogen in agriculture

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluates the potential of a new organic fertilizer derived from porcine intestinal mucosa (designated BHE), a by‐product of the heparin extraction process, as a sustainable nitrogen (N) source for agriculture. The work was conducted in two stages: (i) chemical and spectroscopic characterization of BHE compared with poultry litter ...

Effect of Differing Temperature Cycles on Broiler Performance

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1984
Commercial male broilers were used in five trials conducted to determine whether lowering the temperature during the cool portion of the 24-hr period in summer affected broiler performance. Treatments used were 24-hr linear temperature cycles ranging from a high of 35 C to a low of either 26.7 or 21.1 C.

Production of bioethanol from residual barley and utilization of fermentation co‐products in animal nutrition

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract The search for sustainable alternatives for bioethanol production has encouraged the valorization of agro‐industrial residues. This study evaluated the use of residual barley as a feedstock for bioethanol production and as a potential ingredient for ruminant feed.

Strategies for Identification and Mitigation of Sanguinarine in Mustard Oil Adulterated by Argemone—A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Sanguinarine, a toxic alkaloid present in argemone, can lead to epidemic dropsy or chronic diseases through DNA intercalation and immune system suppression. Regulatory efforts face challenges due to economic motivations for adulteration as well as technical, social, and infrastructure barriers.

Effect of Probiotics on Broilers Performance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Poultry Science, 2006
A probiotic is a live microbial feed supplement, which beneficially affects the host animal by improving its intestinal balance. It has been used as a substitute of antibiotics that is being used in considerable amounts as growth promoters in broilers production and is, associated with incalculable risks for human health resulting from the use of ...
