Photostability of Cyanine Dyes and Its Correlation to Their Photothermal and Photodynamic Effects

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Photostability (PS) of dyes is a crucial parameter for performance in biological applications, yet often underrated. Here PS of several cyanines is investigated. The method is carefully evaluated and designed as a general and easy tool to compare PS of NIR dyes.

Encapsulation of Linear and Cyclic Alkanes in Water Within a Dimeric Deep‐Cavity Sulfonatocalix[4]arene Capsule

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Captured in water. A tetrasulfonated deep‐cavity calix[4]arene encapsulates linear and cyclic alkanes, as well as benzene and hexafluorobenzene, in water by forming a self‐assembled dimeric capsule. The binding affinity is guest size‐dependent. For linear alkanes, the affinity peaks at n‐hexane, while cyclooctane is the most strongly bound cycloalkane.

Designing Threefold π‐Surfaces Through Peripheral Halogenation to Shape Multidirectional Molecular Packing

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The complete series of hexahalogenated triptycene‐tribenzoquinones, comprising newly synthesized fluoro‐, bromo‐, and iodo‐substituted derivatives together with the previously reported chloro analogue, enables systematic comparison of their molecular properties and intermolecular interactions in relation to their crystal packing modes.

C‐Terminal Functionalization Methods of Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
C‐terminal functionalization offers powerful routes to peptide and protein diversification, yet epimerization, hydrolysis, and selectivity remain key challenges. This Review surveys enzymatic, decarboxylative, and condensation strategies, highlighting advances toward chemo‐ and regioselective, protecting‐group‐free, atom‐efficient methods applicable to

Getting the Big Ones to Pack: Crystal Structure of Vitamin K2 With a Chaperone

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A method for obtaining co‐crystals of medium‐size organic molecules and ‐tetrakis(2‐fluoro‐4‐methoxyphenyl)adamantane (TFM) as chaperone was developed. This method yielded a high‐resolution x‐ray crystal structure of menaquinone MK‐4 (vitamin K2), in which layers of chaperone and vitamin guest molecules are found.
