The evaluation of next‐generation sequencing assisted pathogenic detection in immunocompromised hosts with pulmonary infection: A retrospective study

open access: yesThe Clinical Respiratory Journal, Volume 16, Issue 12, Page 793-801, December 2022., 2022
In this study, we discovered that next‐generation sequencing (NGS)‐assisted pathogenic detection may improve detection efficiency and is associated with better clinical outcomes in immunocompromised pulmonary‐infected patients with radiographic evidence of bilateral diffuse lesions.

Autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis with features similar to nonspecific interstitial pneumonia

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2022
A 58-year-old woman with cough and dyspnea who was suspected of having idiopathic interstitial pneumonia had been treated with corticosteroids and cyclosporine, but the symptoms had worsened.

Chemokines in the Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid of Patients with Sarcoidosis.

open access: yesInternal Medicine, 1997
We measured the levels of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids from 27 patients with active pulmonary sarcoidosis and examined the relationship between chemokine levels and some clinical manifestations.

Revision and Update of the Consensus Definitions of Invasive Fungal Disease From the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer and the Mycoses Study Group Education and Research Consortium. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) remain important causes of morbidity and mortality. The consensus definitions of the Infectious Diseases Group of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer and the Mycoses Study Group have ...

Inhalable Polymeric Nanoparticle Containing Triphenylphosphanium Bromide‐modified Sonosensitizer for Enhanced Therapy of Acute Bacterial Pneumonia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial pneumonia is the sixth leading cause of death. In this study, an inhalable polymeric nanoparticle NPFCPS‐P is developed, which under US stimulation showed high efficacy in the treatment of acute bacterial pneumonia. This nanoplatform would be much less prone to select bacterial resistance and represented a promising measure for antibiotics ...

Patterns of volatile organic compounds in excrements of preterm neonates

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 53, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background As neonates are susceptible for many diseases, establishing noninvasive diagnostic methods is desirable. We hypothesized that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) could be successfully measured in diaper samples. Methods We performed a feasibility study to investigate whether ambient air‐independent headspace measurements of the VOC ...

Nested–polymerase chain reaction detection of f. sp. in a suspected immunocompromised Cavalier King Charles spaniel with multiple infections

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports, 2019
A 7-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel female was referred due to a chronic cough refractory to antibiotic treatments. Laboratory findings showed leukocytosis, increased serum C-reactive protein, hypogammaglobulinemia, and decreased total serum ...

Expression of complement-related membrane proteins on lymphocytes and alveolar macrophages in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid

open access: yesAllergology International, 1998
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) can be separated into two groups: (i) that in which the causes are known; and (ii) that in which the etiologies have not been determined.

Kinetics of microRNA Expression in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid Samples [PDF]

open access: yesLung, 2015
Levels of microRNAs (miRNAs) are increasingly assessed in biological fluids, for example, in samples obtained by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). "Post-collection kinetics" of miRNA expression levels, however, have not been investigated to date. In these experiments, we analyzed the dynamic expression profile of 5 different miRNAs (miR-17, miR-19b, miR ...
