ChicGrasp: Imitation‐Learning‐Based Customized Dual‐Jaw Gripper Control for Manipulation of Delicate, Irregular Bio‐Products

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Automated poultry processing lines still rely on humans to lift slippery, easily bruised carcasses onto a shackle conveyor. Deformability, anatomical variance, and hygiene rules make conventional suction and scripted motions unreliable. We present ChicGrasp, an end‐to‐end hardware‐software co‐designed imitation learning framework, to offer a ...

Development of an epigenetic clock resistant to changes in immune cell composition

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Epigenetic clocks are age predictors that use machine-learning models trained on DNA CpG methylation values to predict chronological or biological age. Increases in predicted epigenetic age relative to chronological age (epigenetic age acceleration) are ...

Lifespan-increasing drug nordihydroguaiaretic acid inhibits p300 and activates autophagy

open access: yesnpj Aging and Mechanisms of Disease, 2019
Aging is characterized by the progressive loss of physiological function in all organisms. Remarkably, the aging process can be modulated by environmental modifications, including diet and small molecules.

Paternal Circadian Disruption Impairs Offspring Cognition via Sperm microRNAs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Paternal circadian disruption remodels the sperm small RNA payload, elevating miR‐92a‐3p/miR‐25‐3p levels and perturbing early embryonic gene regulatory programs. Microinjection experiments and single‐embryo transcriptomics reveal sex‐specific developmental vulnerabilities, ultimately impairing offspring hippocampal synaptic plasticity and cognition ...

Single-cell analysis identifies conserved features of immune dysfunction in simulated microgravity and spaceflight

open access: yesNature Communications
Microgravity is associated with immunological dysfunction, though the mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, using single-cell analysis of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) exposed to short term (25 hours) simulated microgravity, we ...

Galactic Spiral Arms: Structure and Dynamics Given by an Equation of Motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Using an equation of motion for a self-gravitating filament, we show how galactic spiral arms might be created and sustained. We find that the combination of differential rotation of the galactic disk and the self-gravity of the arm (as given by the ...

Testimony, Responsibility and Recognition: A Ricoeurian Response to Crises of Sexual Abuse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
How can we, as individuals and as members of religious, educational, and/ or social institutions, more adequately respond to the crises of sexual abuse that have come to light in recent years?

Restriction of Individual Branched‐Chain Amino Acids has Distinct Effects on the Development and Progression of Alzheimer's Disease in 3xTg Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Protein restriction (PR) slows Alzheimer's disease (AD) in mice, and other benefits of PR are due to decreased branched‐chain amino acids (BCAAs). We show that restricting any BCAA has benefits, with sex‐ and BCAA‐specific impacts on pathology, molecular signaling, and cognition.

OXR1 maintains the retromer to delay brain aging under dietary restriction

open access: yesNature Communications
Dietary restriction (DR) delays aging, but the mechanism remains unclear. We identified polymorphisms in mtd, the fly homolog of OXR1, which influenced lifespan and mtd expression in response to DR.

An Optimal Current Observer for Predictive Current Controlled Buck DC-DC Converters

open access: yesSensors, 2014
In digital current mode controlled DC-DC converters, conventional current sensors might not provide isolation at a minimized price, power loss and size.
