Interdependencies between Indigenous peoples, local communities, and freshwater systems in a changing Amazon

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract Globally, Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPs and LCs) are fighting for the recognition of their knowledge and decision‐making authority in freshwater conservation. In the Amazon, decision‐making around freshwater management and conservation has often overlooked Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) and the connections between ...

Buriti oil as an alternative to the use of antimicrobials in broiler diets

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects and economic viability of diets containing different levels of antibiotic and buriti oil (BO) on performance, carcass and cut yields, and relative weight of organs of broilers. A total of 432 one- to 42-day-old male chicks were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design with six ...

A Comparison of Monoglyceride Production from Microalgaelipids and Rapeseed Oil Catalyzed by Metal Oxides

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 17, Issue 23, December 6, 2024.
Microalgae is an underutilised source of food with high nutritional value, such as omega 3, −6, and −9. Glycerolysis of microalgal oil is a simple route to obtain emulsifiers rich in these essential fatty acids and this study reports the first use of heterogeneous catalysts for this application.

Cold‐pressed perilla seed oil: Investigating its protective influence on the gut–brain axis in mice with rotenone‐induced Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 12, Issue 9, Page 6259-6283, September 2024.
Cold‐pressed perilla seed oil, rich in alpha‐linolenic acid, improved Parkinson's disease pathology and symptoms in rotenone‐induced mice via the gut–brain axis. It decreased alpha‐synuclein accumulation in the colon and hippocampus, reduced Cox‐2 expression, suppressed Iba‐1 microglia activation, prevented dopaminergic cell death in the substantia ...
