Regulation of autophagy by plant‐based polyphenols: A critical review of current advances in glucolipid metabolic diseases and food industry applications

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 1039-1067, September 2023., 2023
Polyphenol‐mediated metabolic functions of autophagy occur in various tissues. Multiple signaling pathways, receptors, and transcription factors are involved. Polyphenol‐regulated autophagy benefits its application in the food industry. Abstract Autophagy is a complex self‐degrading process, and its imbalance adversely affects local (metabolically ...

An Exopectate Lyase of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens from the Bovine Rumen [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1982
An extracellular pectinolytic enzyme produced by Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens isolated from the bovine rumen was studied. The enzyme had a pH optimum of 8.0 to 8.5 and was stimulated by Ca2+ and inhibited by EDTA. The products of pectinolysis had an absorption peak at 235 nm and reacted with thiobarbituric acid, indicating a lyase type of action.

Application of different proportions of sweet sorghum silage as a substitute for corn silage in dairy cows

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 11, Issue 6, Page 3575-3587, June 2023., 2023
Feeding sorghum silage as a replacement for corn silage could increase milk yield and fat. Sorghum silage is feasible for dairy cows, and it is reasonable to replace corn silage with 75% sorghum silage. Abstract This experiment explored the effects of different proportions of sweet sorghum silage as a substitute for corn silage on dry matter intake ...

Fermentation of xylans by Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens and other ruminal bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1987
The ability of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens and other ruminal bacteria (6 species, 18 strains) to ferment a crude xylan from wheat straw or to ferment xylans from larchwood or oat spelts was studied. Liquid cultures were monitored for carbohydrate utilization, cell growth (protein), and fermentation acid production. B. fibrisolvens 49, H17c, AcTF2, and D1

The modulation effects of plant‐derived bioactive ingredients on chronic kidney disease: Focus on the gut–kidney axis

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 262-282, March 2023., 2023
Dietary PBI may have the potential to restore the gut‐kidney axis balance, and serves as a promising strategy in alleviating CKD. On the one hand, PBI can directly alleviate CKD through its antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antifibrotic effects and as ROS scavenger.

Characterization of the Lipids of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1970
Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens strain D-1 was grown on a lipid-free chemically defined medium. The lipids were extracted with chloroform-methanol and separated into nonpolar and polar fractions by silicic acid column chromatography. Further separations were made by preparative thin-layer chromatography.

An investigation on conjugated linoleic acid content, fatty acid composition, and physicochemical characteristics of Iranian Kurdish butter oil

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 1051-1058, February 2023., 2023
Local doogh butter was prepared from cow's (CIKBO) and ewe's milk (EIKBO). Then, the physicochemical properties, fatty acid composition, and triglyceride composition of CIKBO and EIKBO butter were investigated with gas chromatography (GC‐FID). Therefore, the GC‐FID profile is provided a superior natural supply of CLA and low molecular weight fatty ...

A newly developed bacteriocin like substance to replace monensin in diets of lactating ewes

open access: yesAnimal Science Journal, Volume 94, Issue 1, January/December 2023., 2023
Abstract The aim of the present experiment was to evaluate the effect of feeding a newly produced bacteriocin‐like substance (BLS) as a replacement for monensin in the diets of lactating ewes. In Experiment 1, the effects of BLS or monensin at 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 g/kg diet on in vitro ruminal fermentation were compared.
