Elevated plasma CXCL12 leads to pain chronicity via positive feedback upregulation of CXCL12/CXCR4 axis in pain synapses

open access: yesThe Journal of Headache and Pain
Background Chronic pain poses a clinical challenge due to its associated costly disability and treatment needs. Determining how pain transitions from acute to chronic is crucial for effective management.

Homeostatic and Tissue Reparation Defaults in Mice Carrying Selective Genetic Invalidation of CXCL12/Proteoglycan Interactions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceBACKGROUND: Interaction with heparan sulfate proteoglycans is supposed to provide chemokines with the capacity to immobilize on cell surface and extracellular matrix for accomplishing both tissue homing and signaling of attracted ...

Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

Identification of Crucial Drug Targets and Pathways to Reprogram Drug Resistance Through Epigenetic Modulation in Advanced Lung Cancer Using Integrated Bioinformatics Approach

open access: yesComputational and Systems Oncology, Volume 6, Issue 1, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Resistance to chemotherapy, which is demonstrated in almost every patient with advanced‐stage lung cancer (ALC), underscores an urgent need to unravel the underlying molecular mechanisms and identify novel strategies to overcome drug resistance. In the present study, an attempt was made to identify epigenetic targets and modulators that can be

CXCL12/CXCR4 pathway as a novel therapeutic target for RNF213-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension

open access: yesScientific Reports
Genetic backgrounds of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) were not fully investigated. A variant of c.14429G > A (p.Arg4810Lys) in the ring finger protein 213 gene (RNF213) was recently identified as a risk allele for poor treatment ...

Deciphering the Impact of EPHA1‐AS1 Gene Polymorphism on Social Cognition Deficits in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
Patients with Parkinson's disease showed poorer social cognition overall regardless of gene. There is an interplay between PD, rs2966700, and positive emotion recognition. PD patients carrying the C allele on rs2966700 performed poorer, suspected due to decreased EPHA1‐AS1 activity and increased inflammation.

The Homeobox Genes: Classification, Regulation, Biological Functions, and Diseases

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
Overview of the homeobox gene superfamily and its pathophysiological roles. The homeobox superfamily comprises several major classes, including ANTP, PRD, TALE, LIM, POU, and others. Among these, the HOX clusters (A–D) play critical roles in embryonic development specifically in conferring cellular identity, regulating morphogenesis, and guiding axial ...

Epithelial chemokine CXCL14 synergizes with CXCL12 via allosteric modulation of CXCR4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The chemokine receptor, CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4), is selective for CXC chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12), is broadly expressed in blood and tissue cells, and is essential during embryogenesis and hematopoiesis.
