The silent elephant in the room: Observed differences in calling behavior of African forest elephants (Loxodonta cyclotis) in a fragmented West African forest

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Small, fragmented populations of critically endangered species require different conservation strategies than large, contiguous populations, as they are vulnerable to local extinction, demographic shifts, and behavior changes. Effective management necessitates regular, systematic surveys to detect early warning signs of decline and facilitate ...

Liberation of host heme by Clostridioides difficile-mediated damage enhances Enterococcus faecalis fitness during infection

open access: yesmBio
Toxin production by Clostridioides difficile damages the colonic epithelium and leads to a robust inflammatory response. This disruption of the epithelial barrier markedly alters the nutritional landscape in the C. difficile-infected gut.

Trends and regional variation in antibiotic prescribing by dentists in Finland, 2012–2025: A register‐based study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract This nationwide register‐based study aimed to investigate trends and regional variation in the number of antibiotic prescriptions issued by dentists in Finland from 2012 to 2025. Data on reimbursed outpatient antibiotic prescriptions dispensed by Finnish pharmacies were used.

Equine coronavirus: Investigating seroconversion and faecal shedding patterns in naturally occurring field infections

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Background Equine coronavirus (ECoV) is an increasingly recognised cause of pyrexia and enteric disease in the horse. Objectives To (1) evaluate if horses seroconvert after clinical ECoV infection and (2) investigate the pattern of faecal excretion of ECoV to determine the optimal testing moment with the overall aim of helping veterinarians in ...

Comparison of intestinal histopathological changes following teclistamab, BCMA‐directed CAR T, CD19‐directed CAR T and rituximab therapies

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
This is a retrospective review of intestinal tract biopsies from patients treated with various cellular immunotherapies (BCMA and CD19‐directed CAR T, teclistamab and rituximab therapies). We found distinct but overlapping histologic patterns across treatment groups, with lamina propria plasma cell depletion, crypt apoptotic bodies and active ...

Real‐world evidence for the efficacy and tolerability of an isobutylamido‐thiazolyl‐resorcinol (Thiamidol)‐containing skincare regimen on facial hyperpigmentation and overall skin appearance: A multi‐centre study in 11 European countries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
A Thiamidol‐containing skincare regimen showed significant improvement in facial hyperpigmentation in a real‐world study across 11 European countries. The treatment led to a significant reduction in mMASI scores, enhanced overall skin condition and demonstrated high tolerability.

Immunometabolic Modulation by Low‐Dose Sodium Butyrate: PI3K/Akt/mTOR Signalling Orchestrates Macrophage Polarization to Protect Against Clostridioides difficile Colitis

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Clostridioides difficile toxins TcdA and TcdB enter intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) via specific receptors, disrupt tight‐junction integrity and activate PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling, promoting inflammasome assembly and IL‐1β release. Toxin‐induced IEC apoptosis further weakens the epithelial barrier.

The Role of Innate Lymphoid Cells in Autoimmune, Allergic and Infectious Diseases: A Systematic Review

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
This systematic review establishes disease‐specific dysregulations of human innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), demonstrating that an ILC1/ILC3 imbalance compromises mucosal barriers in inflammatory bowel disease, while activated ILC2s drive allergic airway inflammation.
