Schistosoma mansoni TOR is a tetraspanning orphan receptor on the parasite surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A trispanning orphan receptor (TOR) has been described in Schistosoma haematobium and S. mansoni. Here we report the complete molecular organization of the S. mansoni TOR gene, also known as SmCRIT (complement C2 receptor inhibitor trispanning).

Selective and Precise Editing of Digital Polymers Through Parallel or Series Toehold‐Mediated Strand Displacement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A sequence‐encoded supramolecular construct containing two accessible toeholds is developed herein for enabling multiple editing operations. By introducing specific input strands, it is possible to selectively erase or rewrite digital content through parallel or series toehold‐mediated strand displacement (PTMSD or STMSD).

Intramolecular C2 Domain-Mediated Autoinhibition of Protein Kinase C βII

open access: yesCell Reports, 2015
The signaling output of protein kinase C (PKC) is exquisitely controlled, with its disruption resulting in pathophysiologies. Identifying the structural basis for autoinhibition is central to developing effective therapies for cancer, where PKC activity ...

Signaling through C2 domains: More than one lipid target

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2014
C2 domains are membrane-binding modules that share a common overall fold: a single compact Greek-key motif organized as an eight-stranded anti-parallel β-sandwich consisting of a pair of four-stranded β-sheets. A myriad of studies have demonstrated that in spite of sharing the common structural β-sandwich core, slight variations in the residues located

Stoma‐Shell Nanoarchitecture for Enhanced Plasma Confinement Catalysis in Synthesis of Ethanol from CO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐energy electron impact in plasma catalysis often causes excessive dissociation of active intermediates, limiting C2+ product selectivity. To address this challenge, a bio‐inspired stoma‐shell nanoarchitecture is designed to decouple electron impact from catalytic reaction zones.
