Bioresponsive pseudoGlucosinolates (psGSLs) Release Isothiocyanates (ITCs) in the Presence of Nitroreductases

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This work introduces the concept of pseudoglucosinolates (psGSLs) and reports the synthesis and evaluation of nitroreductase‐responsive psGSLs. These compounds represent a complementary prodrug strategy to natural glucosinolates (GSLs) for the controlled release of isothiocyanates (ITCs), enabling bio‐responsive protein labeling, as demonstrated in ...

Complement and the alternative pathway play an important role in LPS/D-GalN-induced fulminant hepatic failure. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) is a clinically severe type of liver injury with an extremely high mortality rate. Although the pathological mechanisms of FHF are not well understood, evidence suggests that the complement system is involved in the ...

Upregulation of Early and Downregulation of Terminal Pathway Complement Genes in Sbcutaneous Adipose Tissue and Adipocytes in Acquired Obesity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Inflammation is an important mediator of obesity-related complications such as the metabolic syndrome but its causes and mechanisms are unknown. As the complement system is a key mediator of inflammation, we studied whether it is activated in acquired ...

Prediction of Acute Liver Injury Trajectory in Patients Following Acetaminophen Overdose: A Multibiomarker Machine Learning Proof‐of‐Concept Study

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Clinical translation of novel therapies can be hindered by heterogeneity‐driven sample size inflation in late‐stage trials. In acetaminophen‐induced liver injury (APAP DILI), many patients recover spontaneously, diluting investigational drug efficacy signals.

Genome-scale CRISPR screening reveals that C3aR signaling is critical for rapid capture of fungi by macrophages.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2022
The fungal pathogen Histoplasma capsulatum (Hc) invades, replicates within, and destroys macrophages. To interrogate the molecular mechanisms underlying this interaction, we conducted a host-directed CRISPR-Cas9 screen and identified 361 genes that ...

VGF changes during the estrous cycle: a novel endocrine role for TLQP peptides? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Although the VGF derived peptide TLQP-21 stimulates gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gonadotropin secretion, available data on VGF peptides and reproduction are limited.

Phosphoryl Halogen and Hydrogen Bonding Controls the Solid‐State Structures of Aryl Halide‐Containing Phosphonates

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Intramolecular (RO)2PO→Halogen interaction versus intermolecular (RO)2PO···HOH hydrogen bonds. Although the O···I distance is shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii of the atoms involved, there is no covalency involved in this interaction.

Analysis of the Recovery of Immune Status in the Patients With Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria After Treatment With C5 Complement Inhibitor

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
We retrospectively evaluated the impact of C5 complement inhibition on immune cell profiles and recovery in 27 PNH patients; both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells exhibited partial recovery, while B cell counts increased but remained below normal levels. In contrast, Treg cells were significantly reduced in PNH patients and showed no notable change post‐treatment.

PET radiotracer targeting the complement C3a receptor

open access: yesNuclear Medicine and Biology
Positron-emission tomography (PET) imaging of the complement system could advance understanding of the innate immune system in central nervous system (CNS) diseases and development of new drugs. The goal of this study was to develop a PET radiotracer targeting the C3a receptor (C3aR) of the complement system.C3aR radiotracer [18F]1 was synthesized in ...
