C4A deficiency and nonresponse to hepatitis B vaccination
Journal of Hepatology, 2002Hepatitis B vaccination failure has been linked to the presence of certain human leukocyte antigen class II alleles. However, the functional background of these associations has remained unclear. Complement component C 4 is encoded within the major histocompatibility complex and is essential for classical pathway activation.Healthy individuals (n=4269)

Gene organization of haplotypes expressing two different C4A allotypes
Human Genetics, 1987The gene organization of C4 haplotypes expressing two different C4A allotypes with a C4B null allele (C4A3A2BQ0 and C4A3A6BQO) was studied using Southern blot analysis with cDNA probes and restriction enzymes which give C4A and C4B locus-specific restriction fragments.

C4A null alleles (C4AQ0) have an increased frequency in SLE patients. Surprisingly some of them have no detectable gene deletion. In order to characterize the level of the defect in such patients, we used a RT-PCR/nested PCR technique and detected the presence of C4A mRNA in normal amounts.

The genomic structure of two ancestral haplotypes carrying C4A duplications
Immunogenetics, 1991Two major histocompatibility complex (MHC) ancestral haplotypes (AH) HLA A24, Bw52, C2C, BfS, C4A3+2, C4BQO, DRw15, DQw6 (52.1) and HLA A24, Cw7, B7, C2C, BfS, C4A3+3, C4B1, DR1, DQw5 (7.2), which occur with the haplotype frequencies of approximately 10% and 4% respectively in the Japanese population, carry duplicated C4A alleles by C4 allotyping ...

C4A deficiency in children and adolescents with recurrent respiratory infections
Human Immunology, 2012Increased susceptibility to recurrent viral and bacterial respiratory infections in children and young adults is not well understood. To evaluate the role of complement factor C4 in the defense against respiratory infections, we studied complement factor C4 allotypes C4A and C4B and copy numbers of C4A and C4B genes in 84 children and young adults with

Complement Components C4A and C4B in Human Lupus
2005For over half a century low serum complement C4 concentrations have been recognized as a manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, the role of C4 in human SLE remains elusive. This is partly because of the unusually complex C4 genetics with frequent variations in gene number, gene size, protein isoforms, and expression levels.

Density functional study of isoalloxazine and C4a-hydroperoxidihydroisoalloxazine
Journal of Molecular Structure: THEOCHEM, 1997Abstract The structures of isoalloxazine and C4a-hydroperoxidihydroisoalloxazine have been computed at B3LYP/6-31G ∗ level. Solvent effects on relative energies of tautomers and protonation equilibria have been investigated using the SCI-PCM model. The results have been discussed in relation to biochemical properties of flavin coenzymes.

C4A: A Target Enabling Package
Complement 4A (C4A) is a member of the immune complement factor family that is broadly associated with numerous neurodegenerative pathologies. C4A is associated with synaptic loss in schizophrenia, a psychiatric disorder with progressive loss of white matter across successive major episodes.openaire +1 more source
Human C4 haplotypes with duplicated C4A or C4B.
American journal of human genetics, 1984In the course of study of families for the sixth chromosome markers HLA-A, C, B, D/DR, BF, and C2, the two loci for C4, C4A, and C4B, and glyoxalase I, we encountered five examples of probable duplication of one or the other of the two loci for C4.
