1,2-Dimethyl-4,5-diphenylbenzene determined on a Bruker SMART X2S benchtop crystallographic system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The title compound, C(20)H(18), has two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The phenyl substituents of molecule A are twisted away from the plane defined by the central benzene ring by 131.8 (2) and -52.7 (3)degrees.

Vanishing of the four-loop charge renormalization function in N=4 SYM theory

open access: yes, 2011
We calculate the renormalization constants of the maximally extended N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories in the dimensional reduction scheme up to four loops. We have found, that the beta-function is zero both from gauge and Yukawa vertices.Comment: 6

Higher complement C4 gene copy number constitutes a shared genetic risk factor for giant cell arteritis and IgA vasculitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective Low copy number (CN) of complement C4 isoforms and high CN of retroviral HERV‐K elements are known risk factors for many immune‐mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), often showing sex‐biased effects. Here, we assessed whether CN variation within the C4 gene contributes to giant cell arteritis (GCA) and IgA vasculitis (IgAV), two complex ...

Opposite Profiles of Complement in Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Among Patients With Antiphospholipid Antibodies (aPL)

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
APS is the association of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) with thromboses and/or recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). Among patients with SLE, one-third have aPL and 10–15% have a manifestation of secondary APS.

Lexicographic choice functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate a generalisation of the coherent choice functions considered by Seidenfeld et al. (2010), by sticking to the convexity axiom but imposing no Archimedeanity condition. We define our choice functions on vector spaces of options, which allows

Navigating adverse immunostimulation: A practical guide for clinical researchers

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Problem Setting As drug development moves towards more complex products, early clinical development programmes are increasingly hampered by unwanted and/or unexpected activation of the immune system (adverse immune stimulation, AIS). Solution At the Centre for Human Drug Research, we have introduced standardized procedures to make AIS manageable, while

Increased Frequency of Complement C4 "Null" Alleles in Autoimmune Hepatitis

open access: yesمجلة كلية الطب, 2009
Background: Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) is the most polymorphic genetic system in man. The genes of this region influence susceptibility to certain diseases.

Tear-derived exosomal biomarkers of Graves’ ophthalmopathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Graves’ ophthalmopathy (GO), the most frequent extrathyroidal manifestation of Graves’ disease (GD), can lead to a significant decline in the quality of life in patients.

Adverse immunostimulation in early phase clinical trials: Key findings and recommendations based on the investigator's clinical experience

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Problem setting The emergence of therapeutic proteins has coincided with an increase of acute adverse immunostimulation (AIS). AIS has occured in clinical trials despite compliance with regulatory guidelines on preclinical evaluation and its incidence is anticipated to increase even further.

Lexicographic choice functions without archimedeanicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the connection between choice functions and lexicographic probabilities, by means of the convexity axiom considered by Seidenfeld, Schervisch and Kadane (2010) but without imposing any Archimedean condition.
