Doppel as an early‐stage biomarker promoting EMT and dissemination in ovarian cancers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 6, Page 1755-1768, 15 March 2026.
What's new? Existing biomarkers for ovarian cancer (OC) lack the sensitivity and specificity needed to consistently distinguish the malignancy from non‐ovarian influences and other cancers. Here, the authors explored the ability of the prion‐like protein Doppel, normally found in the male testes, to detect OC.

PARP inhibition: a promising therapeutic target in ovarian cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ovarian cancer is burdened by the highest mortality rate among gynecological cancers. Gold standard is represented by the association of platinum-taxane -based chemotherapy and radical surgery.

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 838-849, March 2026.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

Red Blood Cells Internalize Extracellular DNA via Apoptotic Bodies with Clinical Relevance to Cancer Patients

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
Mature red blood cells (RBCs) can capture extracellular DNA, with short fragments homologous to cfDNA. This uptake is mediated by apoptotic bodies, which induce RBC oxidative stress, deformation, and accelerated in vivo clearance. The rbcDNA abundance correlates with tumor burden and therapeutic response, highlighting its potential as a liquid biopsy ...

Risk of Breast and Ovarian Cancer After Prophylactic Mastectomy and Salpingo‐Oophorectomy in BRCA1/2 Germline Variant Carriers: A Retrospective Cohort Study From a Single German Center

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background As the data on BRCA1/2‐associated breast and ovarian cancer prevalence after prophylactic surgery has not been exhaustively investigated yet, we aimed to evaluate the cancer prevalence in a single center cohort of BRCA1 and BRCA2 carriers after conducting prophylactic mastectomy, as well as prophylactic bilateral salpingo ...

Gynaecological surveillance in high risk women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Increasing availability of genetic testing and falling costs of the tests suggests that growing numbers of unaffected women will be identified worldwide who are at increased risk of gynaecological malignancies.

MUC16/CA125 in cancer: new advances

open access: yesClinica Chimica Acta
MUC16/CA125 is a common diagnostic marker for many types of cancer. However, due to the widespread expression of MUC16 in cancer, its specificity and sensitivity as a target are poor, which severely limits its clinical application. In recent years, various studies have shown that the clinical application potential of MUC16/CA125 has been greatly ...
