This article reviews studies of the diagnostic value of CA19-9 determination in pancreatic cancer in Italy. Almost all of these studies show that CA19-9 determination has a good sensitivity in the diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer and that its diagnostic accuracy is superior to that of the other serum tumor markers currently available.

Abstract A 53‐year‐old Japanese female, who had been suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) for 3 years, was admitted with dyspnoea. The important laboratory finding on admission was a serum CA19‐9 level of 649 U/mL. Despite steroid treatment for IPF, her respiratory condition gradually deteriorated with the increase of serum CA19‐9 ...

Extremely Elevated CA19-9 in Acute Cholangitis
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 2007A 68-year-old women was admitted with the chief complaints of epigastralgia with radiation to the back and jaundice. Fever and chills were also noted. The laboratory data showed alkaline phosphatase, 245 U/L (normal range: 28-94); Direct Bilirubin, 5.29 mg% (0-0.4); Total Bilirubin, 8.4 mg% (0.2-1.4).

CA19-9 and CEA biosensors in pancreatic cancer
Clinica Chimica ActaCancer is a complex pathophysiological condition causing millions of deaths each year. Early diagnosis is essential especially for pancreatic cancer. Existing diagnostic tools rely on circulating biomarkers such as Carbohydrate Antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) and Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA). Unfortunately, these markers are nonspecific and may be increased in

A Case of Pseudoelevation of Serum CA19-9 Level
Clinical LaboratoryCarbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) is usually synthesized by pancreatic and bile duct cells and is present in small amounts in serum. During the period of tumor disease, its serum level significantly increases, and it is the most widely used serum tumor marker for diagnosis and monitoring therapy of pancreatic cancer. We reported a case of abnormal ...
