Weather‐Driven Ensemble Logistic Models for Predicting Fusarium Head Blight of Wheat in Brazil

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 75, Issue 3, May‐June 2026.
Functional data analysis identified key post‐flowering weather variables influencing Fusarium head blight (FHB) epidemics in southern Brazil. Logistic and ensemble models integrating these predictors achieved high discrimination (AUC ≤ 0.84). Economic evaluation showed fungicide use was profitable (NMB > 80%) above 0.45 risk probability, supporting ...

Photochromic Cholesteric Liquid Crystals via Arylazopyrazole Functionalization of Hydroxypropyl Cellulose

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 19, 1 April 2026.
We produce a new derivative of hydroxypropyl cellulose functionalized with arylazopyrazole side chains and demonstrate its photoswitchable behaviors in dilute and concentrated aqueous solutions, ultimately designing a series of photochromic cholesteric materials that can be photopatterned as write‐erase displays.

A Calcium-Dependent Chloride Current Increases Repetitive Firing in Mouse Sympathetic Neurons

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Ca2+-activated ion channels shape membrane excitability in response to elevations in intracellular Ca2+. The most extensively studied Ca2+-sensitive ion channels are Ca2+-activated K+ channels, whereas the physiological importance of Ca2+-activated Cl ...

On nonsupersymmetric $\BC^4/\BZ_N$, tachyons, terminal singularities and flips

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate nonsupersymmetric $\BC^4/\BZ_N$ orbifold singularities using their description in terms of the string worldsheet conformal field theory and its close relation with the toric geometry description of these singularities and their possible ...

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Dementia Have Distinct Prediagnostic Blood Biochemical Profiles

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 4, Page 844-856, April 2026.
Objective Identifying modifiable factors influencing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) risk is important for prevention. Blood biomarkers, particularly cholesterol, have been associated with neurodegenerative risk, but findings in ALS are inconsistent, and data on FTD are limited.

Reduced Whole‐Brain Network Segregation and Dorsal Anterior‐Cingulate Cortex Neurochemical Alterations in Chronic Smokers

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Chronic smokers exhibited less segregated brain networks and shifts in centrality from executive to reward‐related regions. Additional spectroscopy measures revealed lower tNAA in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, highlighting network‐level and neurochemical alterations that may underlie smoking‐related vulnerability.

Bond Graph Multi-time Scale Analysis of a Railway Traction System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The unified formalism of bond graphs is applicable to designing, modeling and analyzing complex and heterogeneous physical systems. Moreover, various order-reduction methods can be applied directly on bond graph models in order to simplify them.

Constraining Attacker Capabilities Through Actuator Saturation

open access: yes, 2017
For LTI control systems, we provide mathematical tools - in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities - for computing outer ellipsoidal bounds on the reachable sets that attacks can induce in the system when they are subject to the physical limits of the ...
