Carnosine activates the CREB pathway in Caco-2 cells [PDF]

open access: yesCytotechnology, 2017
Imidazole dipeptide, carnosine, is a versatile compound composed of β-Ala and L-His. A recent study showed that carnosine might benefit the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and the maintenance of cognitive function. Based on the observation that carnosine is immediately degraded by serum carnosinase, we hypothesized that carnosine improves brain ...

MAGI3 Acts as an Intestinal Epithelial Gatekeeper in Inflammation‐Associated Colorectal Cancer by Suppressing the STAT3‐CCL2 Axis and TAM‐Mediated Immunosuppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies MAGI3 as an intestinal epithelial gatekeeper that restrains inflammation‐associated colorectal tumorigenesis but is itself suppressed under highly inflammatory conditions. MAGI3 deficiency activates the STAT3‐CCL2 signaling, thereby promoting TAM‐mediated immunosuppression and inflammation‐associated colorectal tumor progression ...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa serA Gene Is Required for Bacterial Translocation through Caco-2 Cell Monolayers. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
To specify critical factors responsible for Pseudomonas aeruginosa penetration through the Caco-2 cell epithelial barrier, we analyzed transposon insertion mutants that demonstrated a dramatic reduction in penetration activity relative to P.

Two‐Dimensional Carrier Gas at Diamond and Cubic Boron Nitride (111) Interface: Role of Interfacial Bonding and Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The study identifies four bonding configurations at the (111) diamond/c‐BN interface, where B or N atoms bond with either one or three carbon atoms. C‐B bonds create two‐dimensional (2D) hole gases, while C–N bonds create electron gases. Three‐C‐bonded interfaces show three times higher carrier density than one‐C‐bonded interfaces.

Lycorine attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation and intestinal epithelial barrier dysfunction in Caco-2 cells through inhibiting the STING/NF-κB pathway

open access: yesPakistan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Lycorine (LYC) is an isoquinoline alkaloid known for its various biological effects like anti-viral and anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this research was to offer a reference for the clinical application of LYC in inflammatory bowel disease.

Transport of vitamin E by differentiated Caco-2 cells [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
In hepatocytes, vitamin E is secreted via the efflux pathway and is believed to associate with apolipoprotein B (apoB)-lipoproteins extracellularly. The molecular mechanisms involved in the uptake, intracellular trafficking, and secretion of dietary vitamin E by the intestinal cells are unknown.

Retinoic Acid Facilitates Toll-Like Receptor 4 Expression to Improve Intestinal Barrier Function through Retinoic Acid Receptor Beta

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2017
Background/Aims: Vitamin A (VA) protects the intestinal epithelial barrier by improving cell migration and proliferation. Our previous studies demonstrated that VA deficiency (VAD) during pregnancy suppresses the systemic and mucosal immune responses in ...

Modulation of Animal Gut Health by Milk Oligosaccharide

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the composition and structural characteristics of MOs across different mammalian species, and elucidates their roles and mechanisms in maintaining intestinal homeostasis by regulating gut microbiome and enhancing intestinal chemical, physical and immune barriers.
