Use of Caco-2 Cells for Isolation of Influenza Virus

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases, 1998
In this study we assessed the usefulness of Caco-2 cells, derived from a human colon carcinoma, to isolate an influenza virus. Throat washings collected from 30 patients with influenza-like illnesses in Miyazaki Prefecture in 1997 were inoculated in MDCK and Caco-2 cells, 17 influenza virus strains were isolated in MDCK cells, and 20 in Caco-2 cells ...

Plant‐Derived Extracts Disrupt Biofilm Formation and Quorum Sensing in Yersinia enterocolitica: Insights From GC‐MS and Molecular Docking

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract represents how natural plant products that preferentially target the specific receptors of quorum sensing could be developed to combat biofilms linked to Yersinia enterocolitica using the potent abilities of protein–ligand complexes with high docking scores.

Stabilization Strategies for Catechins and Epicatechins: Recent Advances

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Oxidation, epimerization, polymerization, and hydrolysis, driven by heat, pH, and oxygen, are pathways. Nano‐/microencapsulation maintains integrity with 70%–95% efficiency; biopolymer nanoparticles, starch/polysaccharide nanocarriers improve stability and dispersion. Lipid nanocarriers enhance bioavailability but raise oxidation risk.

Extracellular vesicles derived from edible plants and edible fungi: Compositional characteristics, engineering strategies and biofunctions

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Non‐animal extracellular vesicles as bioactive‐compound carriers: compositional characteristics, engineering strategies, and biofunctions. Abstract Animal‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) were widely used for bioactive compound delivery but constrained by complex origins, potential immunogenicity, and pathogen contamination.

Interactions between lactobacillus and yeast: A recent update

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract Lactobacillus and yeast are microorganisms widely distributed in nature. Their interactions significantly impact fermentation processes, human health, and medical care. However, there is a lack of a systematic summary of the characteristics of these interactions, and the mechanisms underlying these interactions remain unclear.

Preferential apical infection of Caco-2 intestinal cell monolayers by SARS-CoV-2 is associated with damage to cellular barrier integrity: Implications for the pathophysiology of COVID-19.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
SARS-CoV-2 can infect different organs, including the intestine. In an in vitro model of Caco-2 intestinal cell line, we previously found that SARS-CoV-2 modulates the ACE2 receptor expression and affects the expression of molecules involved in ...

Changes in redox network expression during Caco-2 cell differentiation into enterocytes

open access: yesRedox Experimental Medicine
Objective: This work characterized fluctuations in cell components involved in the regulation of cell redox homeostasis during Caco-2 cell differentiation into enterocytes. Methods: Caco-2 cells were differentiated for 10 days. Gene expression of NADPH

Proteomics study of silver nanoparticles on Caco-2 cells

open access: yesToxicology in Vitro, 2018
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been incorporated into several consumer products. While these advances in technology are promising and exciting, the effects of these nanoparticles have not equally been studied. Due to the size, AgNPs can penetrate the body through oral exposure and reach the gastrointestinal tract. The present study was designed as a

Valorization of Citrus Waste for Recovery of Nutritional and Bioactive Compounds: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The various citrus wastes, including the citrus fruit peels, pulp remaining after extraction of juice, and seeds, are the sources of bioactive compounds. The waste parts of oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, and mandarins contain the bioactive compounds, flavonoids, ascorbic acid, essential oils, and carotenoids.

Atomic force microscopy as analytical tool to study physico-mechanical properties of intestinal cells

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2015
The small intestine is a complex system that carries out various functions. The main function of enterocytes is absorption of nutrients, whereas membranous cells (M cells) are responsible for delivering antigens/foreign substances to the mucosal lymphoid
