In-silico characterization of cadmium stress response-associated Abc1-like protein and its homologues in maize (Zea mays)

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2020
Cadmium is a pollutant of concern and accumulates in soil from unchecked industrial activities like smelting, incinerations and combustion. Plants interact via different mechanisms with heavy metal pollutants in soil.

Growth and cadmium uptake in barley under cadmium stress.

open access: yesJournal of environmental biology, 2003
Effect of various additions of cadmium (5 to 3125 microg g(-1) air dried soil) was studied on growth and Cd uptake in barley grown in pots containing two soil types- a loamy sand and a sandy loam, during different stages of growth. While lower doses (5 to 25 microg g(-1)) led to an increase, the higher doses resulted in a substantial decrease in barley

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Indole-3-acetic acid improves growth, physiology, photosynthesis, and ion balance under cadmium stress in Sorghum bicolor

open access: yesScientific Reports
This research examines the influence of exogenous indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on growth parameters and cadmium stress resistance in Sorghum bicolor (L. Moench). The plants were grown in pots, each filled with 4.5 kg of sand.

Exogenous Melatonin Improves Physiological Characteristics and Promotes Growth of Strawberry Seedlings Under Cadmium Stress

open access: yes, 2020
Melatonin, as a plant growth regulator, is involved in plant stress resistance. We studied the effects of different concentrations (0, 10, 50, 100, 150, and 200 µmol · L−1) of melatonin on the growth and physiological characteristics of strawberry under ...

DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

Root Hair Single Cell Type Specific Profiles of Gene Expression and Alternative Polyadenylation Under Cadmium Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Transcriptional networks are tightly controlled in plant development and stress responses. Alternative polyadenylation (APA) has been found to regulate gene expression under abiotic stress by increasing the heterogeneity at mRNA 3′-ends.

Cadmium stress increases antioxidant enzyme activities and decreases endogenous hormone concentrations more in Cd-tolerant than Cd-sensitive wheat varieties.

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2019
The different wheat varieties have different tolerance to cadmium stress, while the mechanisms underlying the Cd tolerance are still poorly understood.

Effects of Cadmium Stress on Tartary Buckwheat Seedlings

open access: yesPlants
Cadmium (Cd) is a naturally occurring toxic heavy metal that adversely affects plant germination, growth, and development. While the effects of Cd have been described on many crop species including rice, maize, wheat and barley, few studies are available on cadmium’s effect on Tartary buckwheat which is a traditional grain in China.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient
