Synthesis and evaluation of caffeic acid amides as antioxidants
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2001A series of amides of caffeic acid has been synthesised and their antioxidant properties evaluated as lipid peroxidation inhibitors. Anilides of caffeic acid were found to be very efficient antioxidants with IC50's of 0.3 microM.

Antioxidant activity of caffeic acid (3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid)
Toxicology, 2006Caffeic acid (3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid) is among the major hydroxycinnamic acids present in wine; sinapic acid, which is a potent antioxidant. It has also been identified as one of the active antioxidant. In the present study, the antioxidant properties of the caffeic acid were evaluated by using different in vitro antioxidant assays such as 2-azino ...

On the distribution of caffeic acid and the chlorogenic acid isomers in plants
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1958Abstract 1. 1. The silicic acid column technique described by Bulen et al. (9) has been used in a study of the distribution of caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid isomers in plants. Ultraviolet-absorption measurements and titration with alkali were used for the detection of these acids. 2. 2. Resolution into five bands was achieved.

1,3-dichloro-2-propanol is a food-borne contaminant reported to cause liver injury. In this study, we evaluated the protective influence of caffeic acid on 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Rats were randomized into five groups (A–E)

Caffeic and ferulic acid as blockers of nitrosamine formation
Carcinogenesis, 1984Caffeic acid and ferulic acid, which are naturally occurring phenols present in a wide variety of plants, were examined for their ability to react with nitrite in vitro and to inhibit nitrosamine formation in vivo. Their activities were compared with other phenols (butylated hydroxyanisole and Trolox) and with a non-phenolic polyhydroxylated compound ...

Antimutagenic Activity of Caffeic Acid and Related Compounds
Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 1996Effects of caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid on mutagenicity were studied using the Salmonella typhimurium system. These compounds had inhibitory effects on the mutagenicity of Trp-P-1 and Glu-P-2. Caffeic acid completely eliminated the mutagenicity induced by activated Glu-P-2.

Antitumor effect of propolis : a comparison with caffeic acid and caffeic acid phenethyl ester
1999The antitumor effect of a water soluble derivative of propolis (WSDP) caffeic acid (CA) and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), components of natural propolis, were investigated. The oral administration of these compounds (50 mg/kg or 150 mg/kg) given before or after tumor cell inoculation supressed tumor growth of a weakly immunogeneic mammary ...

Caffeic acid as biomarker of red wine intake
2001The alcoholic component of red wine cannot be considered the unique cardioprotective factor, since red wine limits the risk for CHD more than other alcoholic beverages. Therefore, other components are implicated in the cardioprotective capacity of red wine.

Caffeic acid as a taxonomic marker in dicotyledons
Nordic Journal of Botany, 1985Caffeic acid is plotted in the Dahlgren diagram and its distribution is compared to that of proanthocyanidins, the condensed tannins. The two chemicals derived from the same basic substance by a shift in the later steps in the pathway. Caffeic acid derivatives may be seen as more advanced constituents than proanthocyanidins.Caffeic acid may function as
