Intercompartmental communication in senescence
Senescent cells experience structural changes in the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, lysosomes, nucleus, and cytoskeleton. These alterations disrupt crosstalk among cellular compartments, impairing vesicular trafficking, contact sites, and molecular flow.

Physiological controls on seawater uptake and calcification in the benthic foraminifer Ammonia tepida [PDF]
Abstract. During the last decades conceptual models describing the calcification pathway of foraminifera and its physiological controls have been developed. These models are derived by combining data of tracer experiments and microscopic observations obtained from different species.

Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Physiologic risk assessment in stable ischemic heart disease: still superior to the anatomic angiographic approach. [PDF]
In patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD), a functional risk assessment based on non-invasive tests may conflict with a health care policy oriented toward cost containment and direct reperfusion delivery.
