Novel model of calcium and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate regulation of InsP3 receptor channel gating in native endoplasmic reticulum

open access: yesBiological Research, 2004
The InsP3R Ca2+-release channel has biphasic dependence on cytoplasmic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i). InsP3 activates gating primarily by reducing high [Ca2+]i inhibition.

Calcium‐sensing receptor induces the apoptosis of chondrocytes in cooperation with phosphate transporter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Excess Ca2+ ions activate the Calcium‐Sensing Receptor (CaSR), which subsequently drives the uptake of excess inorganic phosphate (Pi) via the Pi transporter (Pit−1) in chondrocytes. This mechanism causes a toxic increase in intracellular Pi concentration, ultimately leading to chondrocyte apoptosis and pathological mineralization. Excess extracellular

Age‐Related Changes in Myeloid Cells and Their Impact on Subcutaneous Melanoma Growth in Mice

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Our findings reveal that age‐related changes in subcutaneous melanoma growth and immunotherapy response are context‐dependent. In models where tumor growth and treatment resistance increase with age, this effect is partly driven by enhanced immunosuppression from myeloperoxidase‐active Gr‐1⁺ myeloid cells.

Identification of a novel loss-of-function calcium channel gene mutation in short QT syndrome (SQTS6) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aims Short QT syndrome (SQTS) is a genetically determined ion-channel disorder, which may cause malignant tachyarrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Thus far, mutations in five different genes encoding potassium and calcium channel subunits have been ...

Cystic Ovarian Teratoma: Clinical and Radiographic Insights Into Chronic Pelvic Pain

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
An incidental benign mature cystic ovarian teratoma on imaging and discuss common imaging modalities. ABSTRACT In this case report, we present the clinical course of an 88‐year‐old woman with chronic pelvic pain attributed to an incidental benign mature cystic ovarian teratoma on imaging and discuss common imaging modalities and discussions with ...

The BK Channel Limits the Pro-Inflammatory Activity of Macrophages

open access: yesCells
Macrophages play a crucial role in the innate immune response, serving as key effector cells in the defense against pathogens. Although the role of the large-conductance voltage and calcium-activated potassium channel, also known as the KCa1.1 or BK ...

Central Dysmyelination in SSADH‐Deficient Humans and Mice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (SSADHD) is an inherited metabolic disorder characterized by an accumulation of γ‐aminobutyric (GABA). In addition to its synaptic role as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA also plays an important role in myelination.
