Analysis of fall-related adverse events among older adults using the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report (JADER) database

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences, 2018
Background Falls are a common but serious problem in older adults, and may lead to fractures and bleeding. As many factors, such as medication, aging, and comorbid diseases may simultaneously affect fall-related adverse events (AEs) in older adults, we ...

Performance of Predictive Indoor mmWave Networks with Dynamic Blockers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this paper, we consider millimeter Wave (mmWave) technology to provide reliable wireless network service within factories where links may experience rapid and temporary fluctuations of the received signal power due to dynamic blockers, such as humans and robots, moving in the environment.

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Dynamic Uploading Scheduling in mmWave-Based Sensor Networks via Mobile Blocker Detection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The freshness of information, measured as Age of Information (AoI), is critical for many applications in next-generation wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Due to its high bandwidth, millimeter wave (mmWave) communication is seen to be frequently exploited in WSNs to facilitate the deployment of bandwidth-demanding applications.

Multiplex single‐cell profiling of putative cancer stem cell markers ALDH1, SOX9, SOX2, CD44, CD133 and CD15 in endometrial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer stem cells are associated with aggressive disease, but a deep characterization of such markers is lacking in endometrial cancer. This study uses imaging mass cytometry to explore putative cancer stem cell markers in endometrial tumors and corresponding organoid models.

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Effect Of Site Selective Ion Channel Blocking on Action Potential [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this work we have theoretically investigated how the action potential generation and its associated intrinsic properties are affected in presence of ion channel blockers by adapting Gillepie's stochastic simulation technique on a very basic neuron of Hodgkin-Huxley type.
