Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tuneable graphite intercalates for hydrogen storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The development of hydrogen as an energy transfer mechanism is of great importance to alleviate environmental damage and economic destabilisation caused by over-reliance on oil, as long as the hydrogen can be generated renewably.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Regulation Of Intracellular Calcium Homeostasis In Trypanosoma Cruzi. Effects Of Calmidazolium And Trifluoperazine

open access: yes, 2015
Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigotes maintained an intracellular free calcium concentration of about 0.15 μM, as measured with the fluorescent indicator Fura-2. The maintenance of low [Ca2+]i is energy-dependent since it is disrupted by KCN and FCCP. When the

Effects of vacuum impregnation and calcium compounds on preservation of the microstructure and quality of frozen Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller)

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Various calcium compounds in powder form, rather than solution form, were directly added to Aloe vera chunks and were expected to diffuse effectively with the assistance of vacuum impregnation, providing different degrees of cellular integrity protection

Calcium phosphate crystal forms in human jaw bones of changed osteoporotic structure [PDF]

open access: yesStomatološki glasnik Srbije, 2011
Introduction. Calcium phosphates are chemical compounds that can be found in various forms within nature, as well as in human jaws and bones. The aim of this study was to assess the structure of solid chemical compounds which form the structure of ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Calcium-dependent signalling in B-cell lymphomas

open access: yes, 2021
Induced waves of calcium fluxes initiate multiple signalling pathways that play an important role in the differentiation and maturation of B-cells. Finely tuned transient Ca+2 fluxes from the endoplasmic reticulum in response to B-cell receptor (BCR) or ...
