Inhibition by calcium antagonists of ionophore-mediated calcium transport in liposomes

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1982
Abstract Verapamil, gallopamil and suloctidil inhibited the process of calcium exchange-diffusion mediated by the ionophore bromolasalocid in liposomes of variable fluidity. This supports the view that the calcium antagonist capacity of these drugs is primarily attributable to blockade of calcium transport across cell membranes.

Small Peptidic Ionophore for Calcium Transport

Bioconjugate Chemistry, 2022
Synthetic calcium transporters are few despite their potential biological significance. Herein, we report small alanine-derived peptides containing pyridyl-triazole motifs for inducing calcium selectivity. The peptides are decorated with hydrophobic alkyl chains to facilitate membrane insertion.

Hyperthermia, Intracellular Free Calcium and Calcium Ionophores

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1993
It is shown that heat-induced increase of intracellular calcium does not correlate with hyperthermic cell killing. Six different cell lines were investigated; in four (EAT, HeLa S3, L5178Y-R and L5178Y-S) heat treatments killing 90% of the cells did not affect the levels of intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i).

Contractile Effects of a Calcium Ionophore

Nature, 1973
THE contractile state of muscle is controlled through variations of the intracellular concentration of calcium ion1–3. In different types of muscle, Ca2+ transients inside the fibres are sustained to various degrees by calcium movements to and from intracellular stores, such as the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR).
