Calcium-dependent interactions of an ionophore A23187 with calmodulin
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985We found that ionophore A23187 interacted reversibly with calmodulin (CaM), in a calcium-dependent fashion. It was found that A23187 interacts selectively with CaM, among calcium binding proteins (such as troponin C and S-100 protein) and other proteins.

Activation of pig oocytes using calcium ionophore: effect of protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide [PDF]
In vitro matured pig oocytes were activated using a combined treatment of calcium ionophore Ž . A 23187 with cycloheximide. The oocytes were exposed to ionophore 10, 25 or 50 mM for 0.5, Ž .

Polarization of Fucoid Eggs by a Calcium Ionophore Gradient
Science, 1980When the eggs of the brown alga Pelvetia were grown in a gradient of the calcium ionophore A23187, they tended to form their rhizoidal outgrowths on the sides that were exposed to the higher concentration of ionophore.

Prostaglandin E1 may Act as a “Calcium Ionophore”
Nature New Biology, 1972MUCH of the pharmacology of the prostaglandins (PG) could be interpreted in terms of their facilitation of the movement of calcium ions into or out of biological membranes1. We have therefore investigated this possibility, taking advantage of the configurational changes and attendant changes in light-scattering which result from the binding of calcium ...

Complete conformational switching in a calcium ionophore
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1994A new, conformationally mobile, ether-amide, calcium ionophore, 1(S,R) ,2(S,R),4(R,S)-4-methyl-1,2-bis((N,N-dipropylcarbamyl)methoxy)cyclohexane, is described. The changes in the conformation of the ionophore were monitored by 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy at room temperature and at low temperature (-90 o C).

Modifying actions of calcium ionophores on insulin release
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1975Beta-Cell-rich pancreatic islets were microdissected from noninbred ob/obmice and exposed to the calcium ionophores X-537A and A-23187. X-537A differed from A-23187 in being a potent insulin secretagogue at non-stimulating glucose concentrations. Both ionophores inhibited the stimulation of insulin release obtained after adding 20 mM glucose to the ...

Histamine releasing action of calcium ionophore 985-I
Agents and Actions, 1988The polyether antibiotic 985-I induced histamine release from rat and mouse mast cells and human basophils. Histamine release induced by low concentrations (10-50 microM) of the ionophore was a selective (noncytotoxic) process. It was energy and Ca2+-dependent and was potentiated by glucose.

Effect of phorbol ester and calcium ionophore on human thymocytes
Human Immunology, 2001Positive selection of immature thymocytes is a developmental process in which TCR ligation with low avidity induces generation of mature T cells. In mouse thymocytes, CD4(+)8(+) double-positive (DP) cells which were treated with a proper combination of calcium ionophore ionomycin and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) have been reported to ...

Acrosome Reaction in Ascidians Induced by a Calcium Ionophore
Journal of Structural Biology, 1993Ca ionophore A23187 induces an acrosome reaction in Ciona intestinalis and Halocynthia roretzi spermatozoa. This process occurs by the fusion of the acrosomal outer membrane along its peripheral margin with the plasma membrane overlying the acrosome. The fusion process leads to the exocytosis of the acrosomal contents and results in the formation of a ...
