Bone without borders – Monetite-based calcium phosphate guides bone formation beyond the skeletal envelope

open access: yesBioactive Materials, 2023
Calcium phosphates (CaP) represent an important class of osteoconductive and osteoinductive biomaterials. As proof-of-concept, we show how a multi-component CaP formulation (monetite, beta-tricalcium phosphate, and calcium pyrophosphate) guides ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Micro- and macrostresses in two level model of coating growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In the work, a two level model of coating growing with the diffusion and chemical compounds formation is proposed. The process of coating formation includes different physico-chemical steps and transformations of the structure.

Bisphosphonate inhibits the expression of cyclin A2 at the transcriptional level in normal human oral keratinocytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (N-BPs) are the most widely used anti-resorptive agents in the treatment of bone-related diseases. N-BPs inhibit bone resorption by specifically targeting osteoclasts, bone-resorbing cells.

Farnesyltransferase Deficiency in Cardiomyocytes Initiates Senescence and Contributes to Cardiac Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid overload suppresses SREBF2‐mediated FNTB expression, leading to defective Lamin A maturation and nuclear envelope instability. This nuclear catastrophe triggers a pro‐fibrotic senescence program in cardiomyocytes. Notably, restoring nuclear integrity via AAV9‐based gene therapy effectively attenuates cardiac remodeling, identifying the ...

Supra and subgingival application of antiseptics or antibiotics during periodontal therapy

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases (gingivitis and periodontitis) are characterized by inflammatory processes which arise as a result of disruption of the balance in the oral ecosystem. According to the current S3 level clinical practice guidelines, therapy of patients with periodontitis involves a stepwise approach that includes the control of the patient ...

A BioLiving Periosteum Evokes Centripetal Regeneration in Challenging Bone Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Large bone defects often suffer from insufficient central healing. This study engineers a BioLiving periosteum that mimics the native structure. It sequentially delivers remote chemical cues and contact physical cues in a signaling‐relay manner, effectively recruiting and guiding endogenous cells toward the defect center.

Chondrogenesis in the synovial tissue is associated with the onset of pseudogout after total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesArthroplasty Today, 2016
Postoperative pseudogout after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is very rare, and its physical findings are very similar to infectious symptoms. In pseudogout, the mechanism underlying the deposition of calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate crystals remains ...

Mineral maturity and crystallinity index are distinct characteristics of bone mineral [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that mineral maturity and crystallinity index are two different characteristics of bone mineral. To this end, Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (FTIRM) was used.

Affinity‐Based Interactome Mapping of Inositol Pyrophosphates Reveals 4/6‐PP‐InsP5‐Binding Proteins in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Inositol pyrophosphates (PP‐InsPs) are central regulators of eukaryotic signaling events. While certain PP‐InsP isomers have been conclusively linked to the regulation of phosphate homeostasis through interaction with SPX domain‐containing proteins in plants, the functions of the recently discovered isomer 4/6‐PP‐InsP5 remain largely unknown ...
