Meaning making in a college mathematics lecture format : the intersection of mathematics, language, and cultural meaning systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Students and teachers use language to communicate mathematical knowledge and understanding. This communication is compounded by the underlying requirement for students to acquire language with specialized meaning and to have facility with this meaning as

Micro‐Galvanic Coupling Programs the Therapeutic Zinc Ion Window to Reconfigure Immune Cascades for Pro‐Regenerative Bone Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilized alloy micro‐galvanic coupling design to regulate the release of essential elements, thereby programming immune responses and promoting regeneration. The sacrificial anodic process of Zn‐0.8Mg reduced Zn2+ release compared to the “large cathode‐small anode” coupling of Zn‐0.8Fe.

Sustaining Lesson Study : Resources and Factors that Support and Constrain Mathematics Teachers' Ability to Continue After the Grant Ends [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Lesson study, a teacher-led vehicle for inquiring into teacher practice through creating, enacting, and reflecting on collaboratively designed research lessons, has been shown to improve mathematics teacher practice in the United States, such as ...

Study on the Reaction Mechanism of RuOx and Its Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In situ Raman spectroscopy and DFT calculations reveal that, prior to the onset of HER, the surface of RuOx undergoes reversible reduction and structural reconstruction. The resulting Ru(II)O/Ru(IV)O2 configuration is identified as the true catalytically active species.

Enacting multilingual learner core practices: a PST’s approximations of practice of mathematics language routines [PDF]

open access: yes
This study considered a preservice teacher’s (PST’s) attention to multilingual learner core practices within her approximations of practice of mathematics language routines during a secondary mathematics methods course.

Electrocatalytic Coupling Conversion of Methane by Dual‐Site Control in Nickel Oxyhydroxide

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrocatalytic coupling conversion of methane (CH4) is accomplished on the nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH), wherein the Ni─O dual‐site is triggered via the proper electronic interaction, synergistically promoting the C─H activation and C─C formation, enabling a selective and efficient C2 product generation route under ambient conditions. ABSTRACT Methane

A Pedagogical Framework for Distinguishing Mathematical Definitions in the Classroom

open access: yes, 2015
Most students believe that definitions play an important role in the learning of mathematics. However, they struggle with transitioning from performing procedures to reasoning from definitions as they move into more sophisticated mathematics.

CauFinder: Steering Cell‐State and Phenotype Transitions by Causal Disentanglement Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CauFinder combines causal disentanglement modeling and network control to prioritize causal drivers of cell‐state transitions from observational transcriptomic data. The framework separates transition‐relevant signals from spurious associations, nominates intervention targets across biological and disease contexts, and identifies DAAM1 as an actionable

AI‐Assisted Digital Single‐Molecule Activity Tracker for Decoupling Intrinsic Heterogeneity from Photo‐Oxidative Damage in High‐Photon‐Flux Enzymology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Employing a digital single‐molecule activity tracker (dSMAT), this research demonstrates that high‐photon‐flux irradiation drives progressive oxidative scarring in polymerases. Unlike simple thermal denaturation, real‐time kinetic tracking dynamically visualizes enzymes degrading into multiple impaired subpopulations.

The Hahn-Banach Theorem

open access: yes, 2004
In this thesis, we examine the Hahn-Banach Theorem, a celebrated theory in Functional Analysis. This theorem has been used to show that there exists bounded linear functionals in the dual space, other than the trivial functional. Another important aspect
