The Hepatoprotection by Oleanolic Acid Preconditioning: Focusing on PPARα Activation
Objective. Previous studies have characterized the hepatoprotective and anti‐inflammatory properties of oleanolic acid (OA). This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of OA hepatoprotection in concanavalin A‐ (ConA‐) induced acute liver injury. Materials and Methods. ConA (20 mg/kg) was intravenously injected to induce acute liver injury

Soil fertility status, carbon and nitrogen stocks under cover crops and tillage regimes
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of cover crops on the soil's chemical fertility, in particular its carbon and nitrogen content, in a Typic Acrustox under conventional and no-tillage corn systems.

Lectins, Interconnecting Proteins with Biotechnological/Pharmacological and Therapeutic Applications
Lectins are proteins extensively used in biomedical applications with property to recognize carbohydrates through carbohydrate‐binding sites, which identify glycans attached to cell surfaces, glycoconjugates, or free sugars, detecting abnormal cells and biomarkers related to diseases.

Snakebites are a serious problem in public health due to their high morbimortality. Most of snake venoms produce intense local tissue damage, which could lead to temporary or permanent disability in victims. The available specific treatment is the antivenom serum therapy, whose effectiveness is reduced against these effects.

Toxicity and Binding Profile of Lectins from the Genus Canavalia on Brine Shrimp
Lectins are sugar‐binding proteins widely distributed in nature with many biological functions. Although many lectins have a remarkable biotechnological potential, some of them can be cytotoxic. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the toxicity of five lectins, purified from seeds of different species of Canavalia genus.

This study investigated the allelopathic effect of Axonopus compressus litter on Asystasia gangetica and Pennisetum polystachion. In experiment 1 the bioassays with 0, 10, 30, and 50 g L−1 of aqueous A. compressus litter leachate were conducted. Experiment 2 was carried out by incorporating 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 g L−1 of A.

Risks for human health related to the presence of plant lectins in food
Abstract The European Commission asked the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to assess the risk related to the presence of plant lectins in food. Based on the available evidence, the CONTAM Panel considered only phytohaemagglutinin (PHA), a legume lectin from beans (Phaseolus sp.), for the risk characterisation.

Heterelogous Expression of Plant Genes
Heterologous expression allows the production of plant proteins in an organism which is simpler than the natural source. This technology is widely used for large‐scale purification of plant proteins from microorganisms for biochemical and biophysical analyses.
