Is Mortalin a Candidate Gene for T1DM ?

Mortalin has been found to be up-regulated by 2D-protein gel analysis in isolated rodent islets exposed to cytokines. In islets from two rat strains with different sensitivity to the toxic effects of cytokines we observed a significant difference in IL-1beta mediated mortalin expression.

Endometriosis is inherited in polygenic/multifactorial fashion, with recurrence risks of 5-7% for first-degree relatives. The current task is to determine the number and location of causative genes. This review initially supports the basis for polygenic/multifactorial inheritance and then outlines genome-wide strategies for identifying causative genes.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
